Managed to get out for my first turns of the year yesterday in the Lizard Range.
Great coverage for this time of year but highly varible snow due to cold temps and fierce winds.
Game On...

Some pics, not mine..... the cloud kept lifting as we went up so no real skiing shots.
15km

Lots of little trees that will be buried soon:

Up top, last bit of sun

Prob not the best idea to try and charge the first turns of the year in knee deep pow. I had a few fun bails...

I skied Main Run on Granite this past Monday. The snow was awesome, but with no base... I hit lots of rocks and was riding on the bushes at slow speeds.

Skied up to Balu Pass yesterday. It was well below -20*C plus windchill. One of my toes still hurts. All the nice pow from a few days ago has been destroyed by the wind. The wind seemed to affect most aspects and even the lee sides were slabbed up pretty good. The snow was inconsistent at best. You'd be skiing along thinking you'd found the sweets spot then . . . wham! Tossed by the wind pack. This new snow should cover up most of that but we'll have to see how well it bonds to the hard layer.
The exit out was scraped down a bit more and more rocks were peeking out to grab a ski. Today's new snow and the next few days should take care of most of that.

any news from Silverstar?
-

Silver Star was meh.... from what I heard ( didn't go, save my pow/sick days for pow days). The groomers were ok but some dirt and small rocks were getting kicked up my noon. The park is open today with a decent amount of rails if you are into that sort of thing.
I don't think I would even go back to the gorge until there is another significant snowfall. Same goes for revys opening, which sucks because last year was pretty epic.www.skevikskis.com Check em out!

Anyone hit the coquihalla area yet? Thinking of heading up there next weekend.

I was told Wednesday night that Revy needs another 60 cm for a good opening. The base depth at the bottom of the Stoke was only 25 cm when last reported so it's not looking too good. They're reporting 25cm since then and it's still snowing so maybe we'll get lucky. Still, barring a week's worth of epic snow, I'm planning on bringing my rock skis on opening day.

Fernie is both. Maybe Nesta wanted out of the rockies thread because he was having a hard time being heard over all those Calgarians

Glad to hear the faceshots are legit, skieurmalade. This calls for some field work.

first turns! whitewater was fun and super busy today. people everywhere. highway skin track. did diamond drill. I think the base is around 120 but it needs more- no damage though. well consolidated though with nice pow on top. took the new dog out for his very first turns, he did good.

got a couple days in at Big White this weekend, mostly mellow laps hiking over to top of Bullet and down through the terrain park. We finished up today with a slog to Powder Chair and got in our annual virgin Flagpole poach. It was pretty nice!
place still need another 40 cms before you could really start to let em run‹^› ‹(•¿•)› ‹^›

Any more updates on revy?
Hit up the star on saturday and it was pretty sketch, snow was good but no solid base. I heard a rumour that management is thinking of trying to open some of the backside on thursday. If thats the case I will lose it. They used to wait until there was a good 150cm base then open it. It was always the best day of the year, now they just want to show that they have all chairs spinning so they can charge full price...... Doesn't matter if there is only 20cms of snow at the bottom of it....www.skevikskis.com Check em out!

There is definitely a race to open chairs in a slow snow year. Each resort wants to claim as many lifts as possible to try and lure skiers, especially with the Christmas season looming.
I always thought that kind of thing is short sighted. Basically fool people into coming, then have them be disappointed with the conditions."Good girls go to heaven. Bad ones go to hell. And girls on fast bikes go anywhere they want." Elena

New cut runs on Grey.
I skied Southern Belle on Granite yesterday, it was surprisingly good, didnt hit any rocks, a bit of rain crust but it didn't affect skiing at all. Waaaaay better than Main Run

Main must be in a wind/loading shadow this November, it seems to be thinner than most.
