    BEACON JONES

beacons do make searching for dead people a bit less frustrating so long as they are wearing one. i've only been able to use one for searching for dead, never alive. some had beacon, some did not. such is life.

having ridden the underside of a big fucking bitch myself for hundreds of feet, i'm a firm believer in voodoo magic now. do i feel lucky? so far so good.

look once, think twice, have game plans thrice.

Main Chute was excellent at 9:00am today. Minimal rocks, minimal sun cupping. Still legit skiing.

Life flight was able to hoist out of the moat, you can barely see the hoist line below the tail of the ski, the medic is standing in the moat.

"Reportedly, they were climbing up a steep mountain chute known as a "couloir."

Glad to have that clarified for me...

Fun times on Timp today. Pic from my parent's house in Midway this morning.

Super duper good snow up high, a rap in the pinch, some pockmarked and rock-strewn sections in Primrose but generally good stuff down low, too. Able to ski to within .5 mi. of the parking lot. Weeeee!

We were surprised to find a single ski track down the upper snow slope that looked to be a few days old. We were unable to tell where it went though - they didn't seem to head to the rappel, I didn't see a boot track back up either. Mysterious.

    Uintas Observations 7/5:
Mirror Lake road is open. Snow coverage is phenomenal east of Mt. Watson. Lots of potential. We had a great day on Hayden Peak. The full couloir on the right is still fat 'n deep.

    Mt. Watson and neighbors

    Bald Mtn and Reids Peak

    Hayden Peak

Mtns east of Hayden (Hayden (left), East Hayden, Lamotte, Ostler, Spread Eagle, Agassiz)

Mount Baconfest 2011 was a success! Considering it was dumping rain in the morning (July 4) the turnout was very good. We gorged on bacon atop Bald Mountain then shredded the east face. The snowpack up there is finally shrinking very quickly.

We skied whatever peak in the Uintas today. Not sure of the name. Excellent corn, perfect weather, and good swimming.

    Time to cool off.

Yeah, I guess that's it. Did you ski below that big ass cornice waiting to rumble? Man, that thing was teetering when we were there.
