Skied Main Chute this morning. Group of 3 in front of me were the first skiers in, the ski cut at the top just produced some light sluffing. No other instabilities noted.

    Any snow pits photos?
I'm still in VT, so would love to see how the layers are settling before I get out there.

Gnarbabe noted "Dug a quick one at the top of Collins, NW aspect. About 80-85 cm total snow depth. 35 cm of new snow, 25 cm of rounds from the last storm, below that is a crust and below that is maybe 7cm of junky stuff."

To go along with the pit she dug:

Bwa! And I was thinking they were especially scientific in Utah. I gotta divide by 2.5, right? Glad to see the pic to sorta confirm my guesstimate.

This thread is very fulfilling from my spot here in Frisco. Hope to add to it myself at some point.

I do, especially on the "on the way soon" rockered skis I have aquired.
    Take me to the POWDER!

And while I am here, going to need some brake bending, going from 92 to 117 underfoot. I know what to bring.

ran into ectreeskier today - way cool dood - it is always fun meeting folk on the mountain. big thanks to skifishbum for the bro skis - wow what a huge difference wide matched skis make. talked to a couple of alta trollers today and they sais that so far they have not seen any instabilities - just stumps and rocks. it is always tops talking to these pros and trying to learn a little more.

Ubber quite outside of the pen today. Skied upper elevation N, NE & E today in Cardiff and Mineral. CT 24 Q2 failed a foot down on what appeared to be a density change , near sketchy traverse @ 9100' North facing. Around 14-16'' of new snow up high came in right side up.

No instabilities noted @ 8500', ENE. New/old layer bonded well with several inches of sugar on the ground. 12-15" new, mostly graupel/ rime topped with lower density flakes. , guessing 10-12% density.

Looks like the safe zone maps will not be released. Oh well. I wasn't at the meeting but I understand why people are against it. Drew said he always gets calls from people like scout leaders who just want to know where they can go worry free in the backcountry. If anything, the maps would have saved him some time in responding to all those questions.

As for skiing today: we hit da bird. Folks in the tram seemed to enjoy watching us shred the cirque Ditto on everyone else's stability observations.

make sure and check the signs posted at the access points. yesterday they were all closed for winching and other machinery on the mountain. not sure if it will stay closed but we're making a big push to get open asap.

My grins from yesterday definitely showed a great deal of stability.

I woke up this morning and they were still there.
