The fact that anyone could use this against this guy with any level of success is an indication that we are becoming too stupid to govern ourselves.
Didn't a guy in a Nazi uniform win an Oscar last year? (Inglorious Basterds) He portrayed a Nazi. He should be shunned not rewarded. Duhhh. How fucking depressing.

c'mon, when you're playing cowboys and indians, someone has to be the cowboy, or the indian... not sure which.
... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...

I see the point (though I don't think the comparison is on all fours), but here is the issue: there is no "historical" value in running around in uniform and playing soldier, whether union, confererate or nazi. It's just a bunch of dorks who get off dressing up for their own enjoyment. And when an elected official gets his ya yas by donning an SS uni, he has to expect some criticism, and you have to wonder abut his judgment.

Downbound Train and jfrost are right and irul&ublo is wrong. Just because there are many characteristics of Teabaggers that make them seem like Nazis, and unfortunately the more Teabaggers deny being Nazis, the Nazier they seem doesn’t mean they are fascists. Who cares if there are lots of really, really obsessed Republicans with interest in the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS. It’s no big deal. You know, they are just like the Confederate Civil War reenactors. Dressing like a Nazi to reenact WWII doesn't make you a Nazi, libtards.
So for all the folks out there who think Teabaggers really are a bunch of Nazis, settle down ..it’s just some brave patriotic Teabaggers enjoying some holocosplay between like minded members.
On the other hand ..trying to reform the Health Care System so that poor people can have access to health care coverage, THAT makes you a Nazi. No. Instead Republicans should just plainly state what anyone with half a brain knows to be true ..that Barack Hussein Obama is a socialist who hangs out with terrorists, probably wasn’t born in this country and is secretly a Muslim, it makes no difference whatsoever that he is black. That’s why Republicans who are afraid of a secret Muslim commie takeover dress up like Nazis. For the survival training.

this is a non issue...more a blunder on Eric Cantors part even commenting on it.
We've won it. It's going to get better now. You can sort of tell these things.

Okay, I can understand civil war re-enactments when they happen on real battlefields. But Nazi re-enactments? On American soil???
That just doesn't make any sense.

Civil war re-enactments happen all the time. Are the guys pretending to be from the south promoting slavery?
This is the dumbest thing ever.
Last time I checked, being a dork is a requirement for being a congressman. Gimme a break. Look at that band of geeks. Some geeks like to re-enact various wars. So what.
Let me guarantee one thing right now. If this were a Dem, I personally would be saying the exact same thing I'm saying now.
On a related note....I once saw a republican politician dressed up as Robin Hood at a Halloween party. The Tea Party voted him out for obvious reasons.Last edited by Downbound Train; 10-11-2010 at 05:13 PM.

Found him with his tights around his ankles getting blown by Little John?
The Atlantic article that first uncovered this quotes his SS renactment org's website.
despite the true underlying totalitarian (and quite twisted, in most cases) nature of the movement. Regardless, thousands upon thousands of valiant men died defending their respective countries in the name of a better tomorrow. We salute these idealists; no matter how unsavory the Nazi government was,

The is nothing wrong with dressing up like a Nazi, nothing at all.
If he were dressing up as a (maybe NSFW)gay Nazi, thats cause for concern.

This whole thread, or at least the initial post, is about the guy being a dork and too stoopid to realize that parading around in an SS uni is going to bring him some heat, not that he's a nazi or a nazi sympathizer....although I bet he dreeses up hookers as Eva Braun

Seems like just another role to play. Convinced that most politicians are just acting the part of lib. or conserv. to have a job.

I know, but the question is , why should he assume he'd get heat for that? Who would disapprove? Only a hyper partisan pscho.
It's a war re-enactment. These people are history buffs.
History buff + Geek = Re-enactment.
Someone has to play the bad guy in their little game. BFD.
Next weekend he gets to play Audie Murphy. Will the same losers recognize him as a war hero next week???

As far as is known he (and his kid) joined a group who only fetishised about dressing up as Nazis.
The group publically professed to
Described the SS division they modelled themselves on as fighting insalute these idealists
and thatthe name of a better tomorrow
soldiers of the Waffen-SS gave their lives for their loved ones and a basic desire to be free.Last edited by PNWbrit; 10-11-2010 at 05:42 PM.

rut ro!
PNWBrit has brought some new disturbing info to the table...
Maybe he wasn't "just dressing up" after all?!?
Guess we should have stuck to our knee-jerk reaction over this instead of trying to be a libropenminder.
