Godspeed You! Black Emperor touring again
I rely on you assholes (I'm looking at you, meatdrink; TGR's resident purveyor of high quality live music, and no I don't care if you do or do not like Godspeed) to keep me updated on this type of thing so that I don't have to shell out muchos $$$$$ to buy tickets after they've sold out. I kid, I kid.
Anyway, I'm going to the Portland show on Feb. 18th. Haven't been this stoked for a concert since Radiohead came to Seattle a couple years ago.

yeah, I didn't hear about the shows until after they sold out (only went on sale a couple weeks or so ago). Just shelled out $60 on ebay for my ticket though. Annoying, but worth it.

GY!BE are coming in concert and from what I've read they have quite a following but from what I have gleaned off of Youtube they bore me to death. I don't know if I could stay awake for a whole show.
Someone explain this band to me. Point me to something listenable by them. Am I going to miss something great if I skip this show?

Chug some coffee, turn off the lights, lay down in bed, put on headphones, listen, experience. Their songs tend to start out really slow and build momentum slowly, then crescendo, then slowly go back down. You really need to listen to the whole thing actively and without distractions for the complete experience.
A couple good ones to get you started:
All I know is that I don't know nothin'... and that's fine.

Yeah, I saw them live a few years back and it wasn't really that memorable. Prefer to listen on headphones. But does touring = new album? Albini sort of screwed up the production on the last album. Just didn't think his stripped down production style meshed with tons of instruments.

i don't know about a new album but it's their label's 15 year anniversary. the concert is a 3 day event with GY!BE headlining the first night. unfortunately you can't buy a single night's ticket, and the 3 day event is about $100. i think i'll have to pass on this one.
thanks for the input y'all!
