Who still rides their Volkl Explosivs?
I just discovered a pair of 180 CMH Explosivs lying in a dumpster near my house... I was curious to see if anyone actually used them regularly anymore - have they been outdated by all these similar new skis? (mantra, bros, squads, etc)?
I have been looking for a crud busting, and post powder day ripper to fit in between my 182 czars and race skis.. Will these fit in my quiver?
They are pretty damn beat up, SUPERR rusty edges and a few deep scratches.. But with a little elbow grease (and sixer of PBR) i think i could fix them up nicely.
ALSO, theyve come equipped with some beater solly demo binders.. i think they go to 12 or 14 din and have some titanium or something... These safe?

My wife regularly skis a 165cm.
She loves it. I'm going to save it for my son to use in a few years."Don't tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know fish" -Mark Twain

other than the rusty edges, they sound like the ones I just bought (except in a 190), same binders too.
Depending on how they ski, they might just end up with a pair of dynafits or sollyfits / dynafits on them, or keep the demos for when some one want to try a real size ski

A little narrow? i must be behind the times.. My powder boards are 111mm...
Good to hear all this

Obviously I've been fondling them a lot and just noticed some early rise/rocker/a bend... are they made like this or is this the reason they were being tossed...? Maybe I'll throw some pics up in a bit

Every day explosiv skier here, although really my xxls are overtaking the go-to spot. I've got pow skis and ice skis too, but even if I didn't the explosiv is a great one ski quiver.
Sounds like those bad boys would fit nicely in your quiver between your czars and ice skates, so no they're not outdated, a legend never dies!

Explosives are fucking awesome. I still have a pair I use as early season rock skis. The Solly demo binders that come with them blow...either that or the 3 pairs I have been through were worn out....

everyday explosiv skier here as well. I actually own 6 pairs "just in case". I have a pair of fatter skis for bigger days, but honestly I like the simplicity of just knowing what ski to grab and go.

I honestly remember my first pair of explosives.
so embarrassing
Friends razzed me for riding the fat chick.
Now I find out she was skinny in the future world.
Still a great all around ski."Fakers are Maggots" - T. Hall, 2011

only a fake Rasta could make a claim like that

I'm actually down to 2 pair, sold a couple and sent one to samthaman for a stiff spring/summer touring ski. Still one of the best do everything skis around, the one ski, besides the nordica 9.1ff, that I know can handle everything I can throw at it. I have testicles though, so I ski 190s, who knows about 180s

yep, these remain my only alpine boards for when I'm on the lifts. 190 buddhas with FKS180. Sadly don't ride lifts more than a few times a year, so they collect a bit of dust.
Everything else mounted dynafit for BC use.

Can confirm bluebirds apocalyptic basement stock of Explosives - guy is serious. Franny aka EarlyWood rocks them as well. Saw him skiing them in a 3 foot storm.

The 190 Explosivs have been my go-to ski for about 5 years; still have 3 pair.
[Blasphemy] I've been thinking about selling off the 2 nice pairs though. On days that I'd pick the Explosiv, I'd pick the rockered Zealot instead -- easier to turn, floats better, but just as stable. The Zealot is amazing. I haven't found any condition in which the Explosiv is better. The Explosiv is probably more durable though.
There may be 2 minty condition 190 Explosivs coming to gear swap this fall. One neon yellow, one wizard. [/Blasphemy]

I have a pair of 190 CMH explosives with demo bindings I use as early and late season rock skis and as guest skis and have a pair of 180's still in great condition for smaller hills. They are amazing crud busters and I still enjoy skiing them even with a quiver of newer fat skis. They are really fun on anything soft.

Holy @#&! im pumped to get on these puppies!
Thanks for answering another JONG question - a real TGR would already have quite a few of these tanks hidden around the house...
....I'll have to update the quiver pic after my unavoidable evening of tuning action.

bought some real nice looking 190 dayglosivs from counterfeitfake, and I've been working out harder than usual this summer to make sure I can manage them for tele daily drivers. I'm 5'11", 170lbs, so I think it will work out, I might just have to ski faster

paging tenex198. he has 10 pair of sploders?

Got a pair for tele, another pair are my touring rock skis (with some dynafits), and I've got 3 more spare skis. All are 190's. Love these bad boys!

White wizards?
Something I could never afford/justify/find, but have always wanted to have in the quiver...
Oh yeah, sploders kick ass. This ski is what, 15 years old now? What other 15 year old ski are people actually skiing/buying? NONE. maybe pow plus', but that fad seems to be dying

I've got some black 190 wizards, but I think I only skied them 2 days last season, and maybe a handful the year before. They used to fill the rock/ice ski part but my original Wrenegades will be taking that spot this year. The Wizards will be on the chopping block soon.

SIP, worthy of a tune and use IMO, I can't comment on the binders, however these skis are metal so putting another set of holes in them probably wont matter.
I still have two pairs of 190s that I consider daily go to skis.
One pair I officially call rock boards now, those I have had for over 11 seasons.
The second pair are a pair are the last gen maroon buddhas, these are nearly brand new. Got them on eBay, never drilled, still in the wrapper for $300.

I´ll join the love-fest.
One pair of very pretty yellow dayglo 190´s, with px 14´s just about 6cms in front of the bootspitze mark.
Great everyday ski, compared to LP´s they are lighter, a bit less damp but snappier and have a stiffer tail. Very confidence inspiring in heavier/crusty/funky snow. Due to some excessively fortunate events in my quiver they are for sale (in Norway), but I´m considering throwing some FT12´s on them and let them live for a few more years as touring skis.
Absolutely a great ski in anything, but newer and fatter skis are better (of course) in the soft and deep.simen (at) downskis.com DOWN SKIS

Absolutely!
I've still got a pair of the ugly as sin blue, purple and yellow 'Explosiv 2' models that I run with freerides as my 'I know I'm going to walk over lots of rocks' sidecountry ski.
They definitely still rule.'waxman is correct, and so far with 40+ days of tasting them there is no way my tongue can tell the difference between wood, and plastic made to taste like wood...but i'm a weirdo and lick my gear...' -kidwoo

And a pic of them ripping up wind crust on the Trient Glacier for posterity...
