Is the crate full sized or smallish?
Sometimes if the crate is really big they may pee in one end and sit in the other.

smallish actually- have heard the same. And had taken out the bedding as advised, too.
On a related note, the barking/whining at night has not improved much.No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent

I've always done the crate by the bed as well. Maybe toss a loafer in there or an old pair of slacks from Murray's Toggery to keep her happy and feel like one of the family?

Put the crate next to bed. Also be sure to put an unwashed t-shirt in there. When she whines just speak softly to her to let her know you're there. If the whining doesn't stop take her outside immediately, then put her back in the crate.
You can also use a cardboard box and simply reach down and pet her at night when she makes noise - should settle her down. T-shirt either way - the smell will comfort her.

Live show at the Dew Drop Inn on Sunday.
I rememeber sitting on the jetty at Sesuit Harbor and watching them film the final regatta scene.....

Do you have an adult dog already? Putting the crate next to where the older dog sleeps at night will work wonders, in my experience anyway.

I did the crate thing with my Golden (he's now almost 6). The key for me was to have the crate close to the bed, and when you put him/her in there, drape a towel over the front of the crate so they can't see out.
This seemed to have a calming effect on him and stopped the whining very quickly, and after a while, actually liked going into the kennel at night as he knew that was his "safe zone".
Oh, and an old t-shirt of yours will help to....it's gets them used to your smell.

don't move her next to the bed unless that's where you expect her to be in the future. the whining will stop. the cover on the crate is a good idea to try too.
unfortunately, sometimes you just have to get up every 2hrs and take her out until this phase passes
it's like having a baby. early on there's some sleep lost, but later they get the hang of it and you don't have to watch over them so much

14 weeks old and you're surprised that the dog can't hold it in for over 6 hours? Jeebus, I'm not sure who's smarter, you or the puppy.
