Thanks for the parking beta, but...
Skinning under the high pressure skies was spectacular until...

Climbing in changeable conditions (crust, powder, some bootpack, some posthole, some skin track) in the second heel lifter position. Ski slid sideways under moderate lateral force into a hollow pocket, levering the toe laterally and snapping the mounting at the screw hole.
Binding: 2005 Fritschi Freeride, 5 years of use
Skis: 2005 Line Prophet 100, 172cm
Skier: 170lbs, 5'11", 50 years, very aggresive
Location: Ascutney, Vt.
Environmental: 20 degrees F., clear night, no wind.
Some failure was inevitable after all these years.
This was the genius year of shipping Prophets pre-drilled for Reactors, then never following up and making a decent clamp to use the holes once every pair of Reactors blew up under load. I'm hesitant to put yet *another* set of holes in these things, so my choices are to throw a plate on them, toss them entirely, or replace one Freeride using existing holes. Meh.

HA- AWESOME PICS DUDE... And I heard you left Mammoth at just the right time anyway.
Alpinista, get two used fritschi's. those things wont set you back and you'll have an extra if/when you break another.
Anyway, on to another no photo report from me. The GF's skiing is coming along pretty well. She got on a black at the snow bowl today, so that's like the equivalent of a double black at Okemo, so she's pretty much ready for anything.
Supposed to see some other mags in Middlebury but cell service was terrible, but unless they were wearing a race suit I figured I would have seen them.
Also, Killington Ski team won the race. But really, Vermont won for having two perfect days in a row with plenty of pow on the edges, deepness in the woods, and soft bump line with zero rockage in the trofts.
you fucking kick ass, vermont......I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

01-30-2011, 09:56 PM #5662The folks at NOAA are talking about fight club!! Someone silence them!! Everyone knows that Ullr only likes to puke heavily on southern new england, he wouldn't dare venture this far north

And some page top. I have noticed that when this song comes on the mp3 there is no possible way to ski fast enough to satisfy the metal gods. Nothing like the maiden gallop

F' this fight club nonsense...
I am just going to say it outloud:
Vermont will get at least a dusting to 2" between now and the end of the week. There. I said it.
Oh, and it looks like the Superbowl will be played in Middlebury, VT and be a few days early this year.

Looks like I brought some snows with me back from UT.
Wheee...
Getting back into the flow of forecasting and It looks really really good for the catskills through VT for the rest of the this week.
First, warm air advection overrunning a stationary front will bring light to moderate snows to these regions over the next 36 hours. Then a storm system deepening in the G.L. will slide east thru PA. As it does it will bring heavy precip (likely a mix of snow and sleet) to the Catskills, ADK, VT and Southern NH. Significant QPF with this system...so the possibility exists for 12+ easy.

Here I am coming to check in and ask you what's going to happen this week (yes, I checked fis first
) and you're at the top of the page with the most recent post. I'm planning on taking a day sometime this week, is this thing going far enough north for Jay, or will I have to go to NH again for teh deep stuff? My plan right now is Thursday, would Wednesday be better?

Had an excellent time at Magic this past weekend. Great skiing, great people. Big thanks to everyone for showing me around the mountain, driving me around, giving me a place to sleep, feeding me, giving me booze and for being fun to ski with. I will be back.

Skinned alot yesterday. Skiied some steeps and some south facing stuff that is almost ready. Skin track included 2 caves and 3 beaver ponds, and about 30,000 overlapping spruce trees. Hard work yeilded 1 steep gully and 1 previously unknown man made line...equally as rowdy. So much to discover.

Wow, what a great weekend!
Had such a great time even if this last storm missed us. Skied Magic friday which was still skiing exactly like the weekend before (WOOT WOOT!), then headed oop nort' to the Middlebury area to explore some shitty, snow-free terrain around there. Stoked to go back, as the snowpack was just plain silly but I WILL NOT tour again with my stiff-ass alpine boots... Especially not for 3-4 hours with super long flat approaches... My heels are still steamin'- Still totally worth it though. PJ I'm hoping for this week on those badass slippers, so please harass me daily about them. Celly pics, taunting and insults to my manhood are a big fat "go".
Big thanks to Weasel for letting me borrow his skins, to TC + fam for their hospitality as well as Bumpskier & Bluebird for an awesome dinner.
I am so stoked right now it's hard for me to concentrate on work... So much potential in this storm and oh-so-many lines that have been waiting patiently. There are going to be a lot of big pictures this weekend if this thing hits like it's supposed to for sure. The whole green spine is poised for fkn liftoff, BC is oh-so-ripe for the picking and even all the normally bony resorts are chock full of snow.
Strong stoke work all around guys, keep up the awesome schralpin' and snappin'! I am REALLY REALLY liking what I see in here right now. Totally reedeemed the ECRC in my eyes! Keep kickin' ass peeps!Last edited by DoWork; 01-31-2011 at 07:48 AM.
