Anyone at Okemo yesterday happen to see someone (my coworker) knock himself out by running into a lift tower? Split his helmet open apparently.

hats off to k-mart, they seem to get it this year.
That empanada shack smelled sooo good. I was not aware they were a local outfit, assumed they were similar to the waffle haus chain. I'll definitely check them out next time.

I ended up enjoying some pulled pork and switchbacks from The Back Behind Saloon @ the VT100 & 4 Junction.

There was some recreating on the snow too. Halfway decent point & shoot pic of my knuckle dragging friend.

Is that the green sports bar with the mural outside? If anyone else goes in there, please ask them if they found a grey and green knit hat with green pom on one of the chairs at the bar. Left my smuggs (hat made by smuggs, not from the mountain) hat in there last weekend after hitting MRG with ML, so I guess it's worth a shot... Thanks in advance!

I was at Okemo yesterday and missed this one. Is he okay?

Okemo was great yesterday, crowds could have been worse and the snow was great groomer/carving snow.

Had a great time with Chauvin, Akokskis, and some other snow sliders on MTW for avy class this weekend. Marc is hilarious, and if you're in the area and looking for some knowledge he's an awesome resource. His curriculum gives you a lot of information but also distills it down to help you make informed choices of acceptable risk to yourself.

There are also a few issues though with taking a class on MTW. Sure, it's the biggest mountain and most popular avalanche terrain but because it's forecasted so particularly I felt like I was losing my grasp at times of the bigger picture. Hopefully one day I could take another longer class out west. In reality, I also felt like a level one or just being an enthusiast in some ways just makes you more dangerous to yourself...

Anyway, I began driving home at 6:15 and arrived in brooklyn pretty fucking late and peeling my eyes open, chanting "don't fall asleep", and lowering my windows all the way to get lots of cold fresh air. This is undoubtedly more dangerous than being in the most avalanche probable terrain I've ever been in, but I made it.

Part of the problem was stopping for a delicious break at The People's Pint, as recommended by my brother, in Greenfield MA. It's not directly off the highway, but they had outstanding beer of which I only had one mini, and an organic shelburne farms burger that was pretty tasty beef. They had some Irish string band playing, nine pieces and kicking ass. Left with a coffee porter growler as well, maybe that would have kept my eyes open on the drive home. Oh well.

So yeah, avy conditions on mtw where I dug seemed to be unstable and reactive. But there's a good amount of snow in left gully and somebody should hit that because it's so sexy. I barely took the camera out, just one pic of the sherby, which is really thin about halfway down and has the worst waterbars I've ever seen.

Akokbrother breaking out the snorkel on the sherb:

    Chauvin testing out the clinometer:

He said the slope was 38 but when I measured it looked a lot more like 32. That's why when I'm shredding mid fifties, it feels so flat.

p.s. glad to see things were kicking ass at Magic and elsewhere in VT this week. No hunter pics?
.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Finally, great bc touring and turning conditions, blower firmed up to 1' rock base with last week's rain, add 18" on top and the woods are fully open for business. Still a few streams open.

Yeah, "mild' concussion - I saw him this morning and he looked dazed but fine.
Basically his third day ever skiing, ended up away from his group on a blue, lost control and woke up surrounded by ski patrollers.

His email to the group was epic:
"I had a little mishap on the slopes this weekend and suffered a mild concussion. I guess I french fried when I should have pizza-ed."

That's not Marc Chauvin, unless he radically put on a lot of weight since last December.

Anyone have a promo code for Jay Peak (or other area?) for Christmas? Doesn't hurt to ask? Thanks.

Here is a photo from my first warmup run at Hunter West:

Conditions on Friday were better, Hunter West and K27 were amazing. There was still some manmade powder left on the sides and some less-skied trails, but moguls have gotten bigger and icier.

I'll be up in VT. tomorrow. Leaving early in the am from NYC & will either be at Sugarbush or Killington. Depends if I hear back from my friend at the Bush & what he's doing. Called he wasn't home. Just a quick trip cause of the holidays, ski tomorrow, stay at the house overnight, ski Wed & then home.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all.

Thanks for the skin path. Stayed pretty much in that area, plenty to go around. We didn't see another person all afternoon up there. See ya next time.

How much less crowded was it Fri? I was ready to leave by noon, it was pretty scratchy.
