Sadly, I think ullrfest might be a little bit south. Right now I'm seeing better support over the ADK and Manny/Jay region. However lets all collectively put some desenitizing cream on ourselves...we have a long way to go with this thing and there is some discrepency with the NAM/SREF (been there all along) that wants to keep this as an open wave.

My wife and I hiked the Devil's Path in the Catskills this weekend. I noticed an abundance of steep, continuous fall line. Anyone BC skiing in there? Anyone care to share some basic info? It seems pretty damn good.

[QUOTE=ml242;3010681]Mt Beacon - 1200 vert of failed ski area facing due west right on the hudson. skiable, or not skiable? I've heard too many mixed stories. My guess is it's quite a schwack for poor skiing but has sick views. anyone done it?

I used to live right at the base of Mt. Beacon. Just for a couple of years. We used to hike up with plastic sleds more than ski though.I could go on, and on, and on...but who cares

BACKCOUNTRY SKIING IN THE CATSKILLS, HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAAHA
ok, now that we've weeded out a few readers, there's some skiing in there for sure... there are also some roads that don't get plowed that you can skin up. That area doesn't get the most snow though so you have to time it right if you wanna go, which is tough, because there will be more snow to be tempted by somewhere else.
The best bet would be for a a really coastal storm to move through, and you'd have to check if Hunter does a lot better than a place farther west.
Did you get any pics? that area is pretty stunning. Where did you hike in from?.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Gotta see how this plays out...temps will be close but that's not a bad spot.
Beginning to think maybe we see a little Halloween 2008 action out of this as well. That storm favored the catskills to a very large degree.
It's early season so lots can get in the way....

Here's some more basic info:

You can see how elevation dependent the seasonal snowfall total is because slide actually has a weather station... This is also why any hike might have you booting up a ways from the bottom.... 110" average is meager but you have to figure that's about 200" as any ski resort would measure, right?.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Welcome to the party...SMS...in case you didn't notice I've been on this for a few days now.
Models starting to shift axis of system towards Greens. Could really lay the hammer down to the higher elevation greens if latest guidance holds. I need some beta on peak heights in the region...and g's too busy taking semi nude shots of K_C at possibly nude beaches to answer....
So...what's the summit of Kmart, Manny, Jay, Sugarbush, MRG etc...

^I'll get right on it
Edit
Rough Elevations
K-mart 4198'(gondi probably is 30-40' below the true summit)
*Glades Triple is 4100'
Lincoln Peak 3903'
Mt Ellen 4005'
Stark Peak 3595'
Mansfield 4378'(at the Chin) 3600'-ish and change at the top of Quad/Gondi
Jay Peak 3764'For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was
