saw an ad for this on NESN while watching the Bruins game but missed the show. its kinda interesting to see Bode Miller's house and him talking about true new england skiing.
---
from NESN.com
video
There's just something special about living in New England, and Alpine skier Bode Miller definitely misses the comforts of home while travelling worldwide for competition.
When asked to share his favorite things about life in New England, Miller listed things that were definitely unique to the lives of New Englanders. Miller talked about skiing in the Northeast, sharing the details of his favorite destinations like Sugarloaf in Maine and Cannon in New Hampshire.
"Those are true New England old-school ski areas," Miller said during After the Game. "You really get the feeling of skiing the way I believe it was meant to be."
The five-time Olympic medalist also talked about his favorite sandwich shop back home in Littleton, N.H. Miller says he misses the shop, called Gold House, every time he goes away to compete.
Check out more from Miller's interview during After the Game, and be sure to check out his full episode this Friday at 5:30 p.m. on NESN.

Sugarbush is a pretty big place. I don't know what kind of skiing you like to do or when you plan on being on the hill, so I'll break it down like this:
M-F dead as dead can be. Deader than Bono. There are no midweek deals so you don't have to worry about bottomfeeder ski bums even taking up a chair.
Saturday/Sunday: Lift lines are not so bad. Get up early and ski. Move up as the upper mountain lifts open. Move to north on a holiday, otherwise stay at south. Castlerock barely has a line over the last few years compared to the old days because the quality of skier has gone downhill at SB.
Years ago, I would wait 30 minutes on a nice day to ski the Rock, and now the waits are never more than 8 minutes, at 11am, on a powder day.
So basically in my mind, crowds are not a valid reason not to ski Sugarbush, with all the lifts open and a plan it's going to spread out the crowds as well as basically any other premier mountain in the east.
MRG requires a different attitude and expectations.
M-F: Dead like Mel Gibson's acting career. Sure, he might finance another movie to get back on the screen at some point, but MRG during the week is a pleasure with the exception of powder days, where MANY people will go late to work and ski till 10:30 or so. You'll still be getting tracks and the lines will get shorter as the day goes on.
S/Su: Saturdays are teh suck and I try to avoid them and make that my BC day, but they're really not that bad. The Single gets crowded by 10:15... eases up after lunch. 45 minute lines do happen on nice days, if it's snowing, or super cold you won't wait that long. The best bet is to get there early and then move to the double.
the double gets no respect, but has some great steep terrain, epic bumps, tasty trees and i will say this clearly: EVEN ON A WEEKEND YOU WILL WAIT NO MORE THAN FIVE CHAIRS TO GET ON. It's crazy. I have no idea why people would want to wait 45 minutes to get on the single, when they can ski onto the double, but there you go. Just a little more incentive to get up early.
In conclusion, SB is being pretty generous with those post college passes (was $319 till 9/15, now $419), and I think you said you were eligible. It's a sick deal for one of the longest seasons anywhere, and it's a great mountain with tons of variety and needs some more people that are more TGR and less AZ knucklehead.
MRG will still be there forever after unchanged, as per the coop's cree and with affordable pricing for years to come. It's a great mountain too. I say, buy a bush pass and a mad card so we can ski together sometime, I'll show you around just in case you never make enough dough to buy a bush pass again.
I tried to convince FixedGrip last year to get a MRG pass and he went with SN, I think he had a pretty damn good time there. Any of those three is a total win though obviously........I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

I am fortunate enough to have the auto function on my scratched up P & S, a couple from Sat - only 15 or so days to first flakes hopefully
Waiting for this scene again

I have to say... My stoke level is at an all time high! Just got back from Magic last night and man, did we ever have a great weekend up there.
UNM and his arborist buddy were tearing it up on Blackline, trimming back trees near the black chair while the other group worked "elsewhere"... Even Jim Sullivan joined the group to huck some lumber and kick some ass for a while- Totally cool! Let me just say that there are going to be a great number of new places to ski this year, as if there was any shortage of cool secrets last year... On Sunday I went up with a group of the guys who live on the hill and we managed a run with no less than 2 MAJOR rock band areas, both of which are going to be a great time- one was even had a section with about a 10 foot pillow gap, which I spent a good amount of time standing on top of and imaging the pooftage dropping from cliff face -> big rock on a dumper day...
Oh, that and I got a new pair of skis... So if anyone is in the market for a pair of 177cm Nordica Supercharger Enforcers (undrilled and sexy!) let me know."If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise." -Robert Fritz

From the descriptions on this board... Magic Mtn is really starting to evolve into something very special...
Kind of like an open source schuss project almost... really FKNA.
The community/co-op type deal really seems to be blossoming with stoke from this sort of open nature as opposed to say... the closed door feel one gets at another certain ski co-op type deal in VT (esp if you ride)"Whenever I get a massage, I ALWAYS request a dude." -lionelhutz

Woo hoo, supposed to snow in CNY this weekend. It was close to 90 3 days ago!
Work is sending me to America's wang this weekend/next week though, so instead of enjoying the light, wet, snowfall, I have to stare at women in bikinis and go diving.

DULY NOTED
[quote=Brewski2;2992747]
hey brewski, after 20 years of being a midweek ski bum bottom feeder myself and pretty much NEVER having to wait in a line longer than ski right on, i can see how weekend warriors would be a bit jealous of our country club skiing lifestyle. hearing of a 5 minute line makes me cringe. spoiled i guess. weekend skiing/mid week skiing are two totally different sports. if i had to ski weekends i'd probably wear one of those helmets on my head.

Haha, I'm not making fun of anyone except the bush for being expensive even for midweek day tickets.

good times camping at Magic and great to see the tree trimming efforts continuing ever summer. Magic is definitely shaping up to be some of the best tree skiing around.
Also Siptemberfest at Mad with ML 242 was excellent, and great beer, food, and company.

and a thanks to gpetrics for sending one of his calenders to me, some great shots in there!

IT'S ALL GOOD!
didn't really think you were. both mid week and weekend skiing have pluses and minuses. mid week you have the mtn to yerself, but can get lonely sometimes with a much less festive high energy vibe.
will it be killington or sunday rivah for 1st opening? last year we were skiing t2 by october 14th and top to bottom by october 17th with DELUXE 50 degree mid week (lift closed) bluebird skinning laps in perfectly fresh groomed corn with foliage all around. got to love snoliage!

@ Dumpy.....
The story for that is a cold pool of air will move into from the upper great lakes. Temps will be cold. Prob. if the GFS is on target here in the -2 to -4 C range at 5000ft with a freezing level at around 1500ft. As the air moves in some lake effect showers (rain) are possible. This would be a cold rain for much of central NY. However with decent instability paramaters and pockets of strong upward vertical motion its possible some of these pockets of showers could cool fast and a flurry or two is very possible downwind (S/E) of eerie and Ontario. Not thinking there is more to it than that....also....the Euro puts the primary pocket of cold air to our west and thus makes us much warmer. Right now any forecast you see prob. is a blended solution splitting the baby between the colder gfs and the warmer euro.
