I started doing my own mounts and edges a few seasons ago at my parents' house, but yeah when it comes to more involved repairs the options are pricey/limited in the city. That applies to lots of things though... you'd be appalled at what I pay for some sour diesel

i don't ski on anything without an established base. natural or manmade. give me a solid foot with a supportive crust and a foot of new on top and count me intrigued.
i take great pride in skiing a whole season and not hitting anything but snow with my skis. i know, anal.

It's amazing that there could be any hacks down here, considering we only have like three shops left and they all have to spend 15-100K on rent every month.
.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Basically, it's gavin(ski) and doug(snowboard) as the main tech's. Both were at light the wick. As things get busier I'll be working more in the ski department but I'm usually upstairs. I think our prices are redic for mounts etc but its one of those things where we go by what other people charge. We got some nice tuning machines this year so definitely stop by and check em out.

Nice man! Doug was actually the guy that misquoted me on the phone but thanks to that, it was $80 total for the 2 pairs. He was a little scatterbrained imo when i spoke with him in person in the store but Gavin was great (glad the ski tech is the 1 with his head on his shoulders lol)!!
But if you could hook up a mag discount, that shit would rock! Like everyone else is saying, prices in the city are ridiculous and having a "local" go to shop this season would be tits!
Let me (us) city mags know what you find out. Thanks!
haha, made my ass laugh!!

31` at the base of the Bush. We received about 7/16" of light new snow overnight. Wind is gone.
While the 103 mph gust on Mansfield was impressive Cambridge had a peak gust of 90mph.
South Starksboro on the other side of the Gap hit 75mph. Currently 19000 without power this AM mostly in Addison and Rutland counties.
6 days of upslope clipper action should help our game. Snowmaking to start soon I would guess.

yea, almost hate to say it but powdr-mart has exceeded all expectations this season. still impressed with what they were able to open two weekends back, and they keep opening terrain and lifts.
it's as though they might have realized that skiers are their core market...wow

was really nice to see them go for it for early season opening this year. i used to ski there and it's neighboring powder paradise hill back when i had an asc pass. really liked the hill.
if only they gave a better deal to us shop rats. 39 bux where most other places are free-15 bux. ah well. less of us on the hill i guess.
will be interesting to see how long they stay open.

NYC mags should contact ME for binding mounts.
I'm far more affordable than anybody within 100 miles and been doing it for about 30 years now.
Gman - New machines? Does anybody there know how to use them?

hmm thanks for the looks! i'm already committed to VT and I'm kinda pumped for the road trip, even if I will be going at it solo. Miss Vermont, didn't make it up there at all last year with the whole Utah thing...I'll def make it out to WV this winter though, I've always turned my nose to it, but I think I've come around...

+1 what gravitylover said, he did both the mount for my naxos as well as the mount for my alpine bindings. Both were done by hand and still came out stellar.
He also works around the corner from EMS so it's not like he is out of the way.
As far as the new machines, I'm learning how to use them and gavin seems to be good at them. It's also why I'm practicing on my own skis and not some customer's skis.

I visited the shop a few weeks ago picked up some new skins etc. The staff was very helpful and friendly and they had tons of great gear in stock for a ski shop in nyc. They have an awesome selection of new AT boots, got to fondle some new Scarpa Mobes and Titans. Ski selection was kinda weak, heavy on the girlie sizes.
How's the temp swing up north?

Yea...storm is going to roll westward off the ocean. Bring Snow to the higher terrain of Maine and then start setting up a large blocking pattern which as I wrote on FIS should really get the upslope snow going in northern Vt and to a a lesser extent the ADK.
