Little sneaky wsw flow lake moisture feeding into the greens and ADK right now.
Quiet 4+ possible across the highest terrain. Nothing insane but it all adds up.

shaking the rust off the bonnie tomorrow, opening sat.

Open is relative, just don't like the guy riding up with me and a patroller this morning spouting off about how awesome BP was skiing

crust is settling in nicely - if you ski"lightly" you aren't uncovering to much debris. most of the moss is completely frozen -still some running water bottom 1/2

The days I don't even think to bring my camera are turning out to be the best ones. Got to meet mmmmBeer and we skied all 930-2. Also met brewski2 and skied a couple runs with him. It's nice to have some friends in the trees!

First 4 laps in the woods were untracked! So sexual. Not uber deep, yet near perfect, the stuff I dream about all year long. Beautifully spaced rolling trees with 4-6" on top of an adolescent base... nice consolidation of the blower dump from last week. Things are starting to shape up nice. Our last two runs were a bit of a drag, some bushwhacking and walking, but other than that (and a few lessons in "creek bed management") it was excellente.

I have 115 long sleeve base layers being printed up with the Save Magic logo. They’re going to be black this go round. In other words, FKN RAD!!!! Not available in stores or to Randonnéers unfortunately, sorry.

Ok seriously 115 shirts with printing, shipping & tax cost a hair under $2600. I’d LOVE for anyone who wants one to buy. These retail for $45 on the Patagonia site. If I sell for $40 net sales ($40x115) would be $4600. $2000 profit back to me to help the dent that the last two shares put in my wallet. Bluebird can verify I handed him a check for $6000 a few weeks ago. If you guys are willing to go $45 & help me out, obviously fine by me.

Not too concerned as I think these will be an easy sale. Snow Wizards is going to sell some for me. If they come out as nice as I hope & they sell, I’ll gladly get more.

Creek bed management .... ha! Good day all around though. Definitely should have brought a camera. Great meeting you and brewski and putting some faces to the names.

A few recent pics from Jay, FWIW. I was there Tuesday/Wednesday, first time on skis since ACL surgery in April. Stayed out of the woods and my knee did very well. It was too cold to take decent pictures.

The moonscape that is Stateside. Only Jet and Haynes were open off the Triple.

Someone else's track on River Qwai. Bad light, sorry.

The Jet Chair was on wind delay most of Wednesday. It was a bit blustery, as seen here from the parking lot. I slayed Harmony Lane with the racer kids all morning.

A few more pics and a short TR can be found here.

Like the effort to keep the Jay marketing machine in check although must admit they've tightened up their shop a bit over the last couple of seasons. I miss the days of the Jay message board where you could take them to task in a public forum. Unfortunately after a couple of years of constant "verbal" abuse Steve Wright probably made the right choice to shut 'er down.

As far as the snow totals, every resort in the east and perhaps the country counts the first flake to the last. Here in the low elevations we just have the misfortune of losing much of what falls early season to temp spikes and rain events. So, has ~60" fallen on Jay this winter? Maybe. Is it still there? Of course not. Sounds like some spots are building though so only a short time before 100% game on.

I'm sure that Jay's snow counts are accurate. If it's only for a single square-foot area of the mountain.

However there's usually 1-3 inch discrepancy between Jay and the nearby Sutton, and I don't think that Jay's location is THAT special.

One of the most interesting elements of writing the weather is mathcing up reported snow totals with the radar estimated totals, the predicted totals and the Trained NWS spotter reported totals.

I'll say this Jay has gotten MUCH MUCH better in the 1-2 seasons. I think the days of outright bullshit are over.

Btw I think quite a few ski areas under report. Some chronically and I'm not sure why.

No one can ever top K-mart for #1 BS snow report - at least in the east.

Hell, they'll get a dusting & list 4-6". If they say they got a foot, it was probably 2-3" in reality

Underreporting is odd. Jay sort of painted themselves in the corner with "the most snow in the east" slogan. They had to scratch and claw to be just that and by scratch and claw I mean lie. They've definitely gotten better over last two seasons for sure. My hate had dissipated immensely as a result.
