thanks BS and hoarhey. I'll stop overthinking it and just get appropriately-sized Alpines and tweak from there, which has worked with the last 3 pairs of AT boots I've owned anyway...

Size 7 power wrap plug liner in 25.5 shells = PERFECT. So good. Can't believe I waited this long.

In case anybody wondering what the "hinge" actually looks like if you need some boot work done in the area:

Anyone see any reviews of the Dynafit PDG boots? I've seen the tradeshow pics that are on the interwebs, but would like to read a review about how they ski and how stiff and durable that fiberglass cuff is compared to the pebax cuff of the mountains or cf of the evo/TLT5.

What, no mockery of an inquiry about a rando race boot? Wow, this place is really slipping -- I expected at least something about, say, how you'll have to choose your lycra suit colors very carefully to match up well with the PDG color scheme.

Seriously though, I did just receive some feedback from someone who skied the PDG this past spring. He is planning to buy it for this season, to be combined with the Dynafit PDG rando race ski and rando race bindings, but to be used exclusively for rando racing, training, and trying to set personal speed records:
"Comfort is spectacular--somehow felt a bit roomier then the TLT5 despite being so much shorter in the shell (I guess it's the thin, soft liner). I do have to crank the instep buckle to keep the liner from lifting up in the shell too much, but it's not uncomfortable and the bit of lift I feel doesn't seem to be a problem. Ski performance is pretty terrible but it does the job. Not even close to the TLT 5 [Performance/cf]
though. Forward flex is very soft--got to stay centered in them. Laterally they're fine but not great."
For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. (For other avalanche course providers anywhere, feel free to use any of my "homework" assignments for your own courses too.)

Yes, but how does his package look in the lycra suit?

Thanks Jonathan. Sounds underwhelming, but I'm sure they ski at least as good as the old F1s. At least I hope.

Just called Dynafit, lean/lock mods for the TLT5 are going to be in around mid-november!

Many more caveats applied to this, since he used to ski his F1 boots with stiffer liners (poor fit for his foot with the original liners), and lately he's been on the TLT5 (not the F1), but estimates "same order of magnitude" for PDG vs F1 skiing performance.

Website says 15 & 18 -- I don't think that's meaningful compared to other boots (since that angle can be measured eight different ways), but I think the meaningful figure is that the new cuff will probably replicate the current setting and then also offer a more upright setting by three degrees.

Shouldn't that be the other way round?

Current forward lean of 15 deg and a new setting 3 degrees further forward of 18 deg ???

Yes, I'm hoping they've just recalibrated their quantitative description ... maybe they thought 12 & 15 would just sound too wimpy ... informally they've been saying the new position is to reduce the forward lean ... plus keeping the current forward lean position and then adding an even more forward position would be really strange.

QFT. This is true even across Dynafit models. A Zzeus/Titan set at 15* feels way the fuck more upright than the original TLT5, which Dynafit specs at 15*.

I think Dynafit's 15* spec for the original TLT5 is bullshit. I modded my TLT5 to get est. 3* less forward lean -- which, by my arithmetic would get me to 12* per Dynafit's spec -- but my modded TLT5 feels like the same or even a bit more lean as the Zzeus/Titan set at 15*. Something aint adding up there.

I'm not sure on the old angles, the workbooks list the original forward lean at 15* but everything I've heard indicates a more relaxed forward lean so my guess is that the original was really 18* and the upright position is now more accurate at 15*. Also you can go to http://tinyurl.com/TLT5Waitlist and get in line.

For TLT5 noobs, this is a good working assumption

I see nothing to indicate who owns that form. If it is from Dynafit, they should make it look a lot less like a fishing expedition.

Great, I'm glad he works for them. As an IT security professional, I still think that non-branded web forms that aren't hosted on the company's domain should prompt extra scrutiny. I made no claims that the form in question wasn't legitimate, just a little odd looking. I'm glad it's legit, and I think your JONG is poorly founded.

Pull your brain out of your vagina. Breath. Look back in this thread. Think before you respond. It's not a site for security professionals. Its not a site for rich people booking heli trips. They dont buy Dfits unless they are training for AK. It's a site for dirtbag skiers that own no worldly possessions save their Dynafit rigs. No one that filled that form out is going to get scammed for more than empty PBR cans. Trust me, that JONGing was about as appropriate as it gets. Use your 14th post more wisely.
