Caberfae was alright this weekend.. Seemed to be overrun with snowboarding CMU students strait-lining down Irishman (the WSOD of the weekend).. Got the weekend pass and a locker this year, so we'll be up there every other weekend. The new Beatie's bar & grill has good MI beer on tap, I like.. Hoping for a snowy season.
One thing concerns me is that cab is running dogsleds this year back in the old ski run area, hope that doesn't interfere with any hiking one would want to do.
Funny that our regular roach infested cheapo motel the Rodeway in Cadillac is without power at the moment, didn't pay their bills or something.. So we're staying at the Econo Lodge now which is actually way better/cleaner but lacks in the character that makes the Rodeway pretty cool.
One trip up to Bohemia for the first weekend in Feb, then one week in Whistler March 10-17.
Here's a little stoke from last year..Last edited by Scottie; 12-13-2011 at 03:10 PM.

The no snow thing is getting annoying. Now they can't even blow snow at Marquette Mountain here... It has rained for the last two days, there isn't even significant snow in the forecast before Christmas. Hmph.

The whole human race is de evolving; it is due to birth control, smart people use birth control, and stupid people keep pooping out more stupid babies.

More time to drive your boat dude.
But seriously, yea the start is fucked. There was enough to sled west of Baraga last weekend but it's almost all gone again already. Hopefully there are a few 12+" days out in February and I hope I can use my left leg by then.

Yeah, that was over in the Toivola-Twin Lakes range.
Despite the warm up, things aren't doing exactly horrible around Houghton right now. If we can make through the next 48 hours without any major rain- we got a good shot at getting a solid base for some good backcountry skiing this winter.
Hope the same is true for further up north by Bohemia....

hmm, more UP dwellers than I realized here... I'd be down for a Bohemia summit if I hadn't had ankle surgery 5 weeks ago, I should be able to ski on it but if I'm going to Bohemia I want to get rowdy, and the ankle will NOT be game for that shit.

So last night I just said "Fuck it. If winter is going to suck, I'm buying a new bike."
Less than 24 hours after purchasing a Surly Pugsley:
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN UPPER
MICHIGAN.
.DAY ONE...REST OF TODAY AND TONIGHT
GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS
EVENING...WHICH COULD PRODUCE GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH NEAR LAKE
SUPERIOR. 2 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON INTO
THIS EVENING WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE ENHANCED SNOW SHOWERS. SEE
THE LATEST WINTER WEATHER PRODUCT FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
Clearly, the deities in charge have accepted my sacrifice...
Still staring down another potential warm up next week though.

PNS; Deception, Backstage and Super Slide are very good. Center Stage, Tuff, and the Meadows Trails are ~ 1/2 their normal width. Park open but no HUGE jumps. Only two trails off the orange "Far Side" Chair are open; that very long & low angle Far Side and the "ridge run" to the last trail that is used for ski racing.
Sadly, not like 2010's opening. We NEED that Arctic Blast to move over from the Great Plains!!!
Unless a miracle happens, don't expect more snow-making until Christmas. Too warm this week. Rain off and on, and temps ~ 45 each day. Looks like Christmas Week we may finally get those 20 degree overnight temps needed for snow-making.

I'm going to Colorad-a.
Where they have 60" of snowfall....as opposed to 28" here.
What the fuck, winter?
I hope it dumps when i'm gone...fingers crossed.

John Dee is now running an 11-16 day forecast, things are getting desperate... And even in that forecast he says things aren't looking up..
Starting to be glad I forgot my brohemia pass this year.
But the new skis, and new snowmobile are sitting there just mocking me.
It is 35 here right by the lake in Marquette, it is December 22nd, there is "drizzle" in the forecast.

Every time this thread resurfaces with more bitching, it starts snowing in the Keweenaw.

Heard 2-4" expected on the radio this morning, but I have no idea where they got that number.
But it *is* snowing. And this is hardly the worst December in recent memory. (2006 really sucked)
Gives me some time to play with my new toy....

Last December 17th I was riding over-the-hood blower in western Marquette County.... ahhhh those were the days. When it got shitty again in Feb, I went to Utah. This year I decided breaking my leg was a good way to start the season, so Im not too mad yet becuase Im just starting physical therapy. Ski boot function seems pretty good from my garage testing at least. I'll be in Marquette the 7th if January for the bday, and I have NEVER had too little snow to sled on.... is this gonna be the year?!

Soft piste conditions (spring skiing) to be had at PNS. Tuff closed now; no access to it. Deception was very good, only the access is narrowed. Clydes and Backstage in great shape. Center still 1/2 width. A little dire as 50% trails open. But, ur ticket good for tubing, too.
Fireworks on Saturday midnite.

Engineman 3rd Class "Chef" Hicks: "Did you find the snow?"
Captian Ben Willard: "There's no fuckin' snow.."

Hey Lost, If I slide down Center, which is how I always take it, only without my skis, could I pay the tubing price?
Just as well for me, using the time to rebuild my strength after a year of school and illness. Hope to finally catch you and BMills and Lefty at some point this season.

What a terrible start to winter all around. It seems like there is no where in the continental United States that has had a good season to this point.
Hell, Cinci hasn't even gotten a storm that has dropped more than a single inch. Definitely ready for this weather to change, and soon.
PRAY FOR SNOW!!Nobody listens to a fkn word fat chicks say. Nobody talks to them long enough to notice they're crazy

Despite the epic nationwide whining, I've still managed to get out and ski some BC every weekend except one this December.
Heck, even the porkies were skiable last weekend....
(not great or even good, but skiable)
Heading off to the exotic destination of Lutsen this weekend. Look for the dumbass falling down a lot telemarking at the hill or falling down a lot intoxicated at the Gunflint.

Walton, Whipper, and Lost;
I apologize for the crappy winter at PNS so far. Seems I took all the good weather ju-ju and brought it to Atlanta.
Don't worry though, I'll be back in town and I promise to bring the snow.
And if it's any consolation, I've been out at the Beav last week and it's none too pretty there either.I still call it The Jake.

Hey BMills,
We got dusted early this AM. Snow showers throughout the day. Next 2 nights in the teens.
PNS Snow Guns are loaded and ready. My pick of the week is Weds AM opening bell.
BTW: better change your location to "South of the..."

Crossing my fingers that something that may have been predicted for the end of this week happens.
We'll see what John Dee says in the morning. The whole human race is de evolving; it is due to birth control, smart people use birth control, and stupid people keep pooping out more stupid babies.
