Best medium din Sally binder?
I've got some explosivs I'd like to pass on to my dad, who skis around 7-8 DIN range. They're drilled for a 916, looking to use the existing holes and a little unsure about the z-series toe; whether the hole patterns are the same (pretty sure) and if they're worth a shit (not so sure).
Should I just go sth14 and call it good? Looks like they go 6-14; too close to the low end of the range? Can't find it but do they make a sth12?
He's a #160 62 y/o dude who can rip around pretty damn good.

STH 14 Driver is the best solly binding without high DIN. I think they're fine running on 7-8, have'nt done it myself though so don't take my word for it.

STH 12s will work just fine. There is almost no way that a 60 year old guy will over power them. You will only have to drill one extra hole per ski for the center hole on the STH 12. Unless your dad is hucking 20-30 footers, the Z series toe should be fine for him.

Older 997s would be a solid option too if you can find some. They'd use the same holes as 916s and are of course cheaper than the newer sth series.

811's or 810's have always done well.
Gravity. It's the law.

Look for some salomon S850's, driver toe and I think the din maxes at 10. I bought a set in gear swap last year for something like 50 bucks.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Z-series toe, although sort of funny looking, is one of the most power transferring bindings on the market. While I don't ski on it because the din doesn't go high enough, it is a solid, no frills, no adjustment binding. I remember doing hand crank tests on the Z-series versus all the other bindings on the market and the stiffness of the toe compared to other bindings was remarkable.
