Thread: What is reality?

Sometimes, the depths of the universe can be fathomed in the simplest of essence.
I think someone once asked Kafka "What is the meaning of life?". His reply was absurdly simple, and yet somehow truer than true. He said: "The meaning of life is that it ends."
I think by that he meant that since life is indeed finite...it is up to us to fill it with as much magic as we possibly can. That maybe the meaning of life is to find that 'magic.'
Perhaps Nietzsche might well concur.
BTW: That picture directly above absolutely cracks me up !!!

Kafka was wrong. The meaning of life is to try to make it not end. Otherwise you might as well just give up at the start. That still fits within your interpretation.

This....and no one can leave their perceptive frame of reference. It is an immutable filter through which reality passes and enters perceptive consciousness.
Therefore, even though there may be an actual and singular "reality," it is not a knowable reality...so the question is somewhat misguided, as no one can say what "reality" is.
In that way, asking what is "real" is akin to asking "What is outside of the Universe?"
The answer is simply: that it is an untestable question. And while people may guess or philosophize, these conjectures are formed in a place even deeper within our perception, and therefore is sheds little light on the answer to the question (although it often tells us something profound about the perceptions of the person who is doing the guessing), and the question is folly.
Ergo, the better question is: What is your reality?... and how can we help each other to understand those realities in a meaningful way, in order to achieve a better and more harmonious understanding of each other?Last edited by iscariot; 08-21-2010 at 03:46 PM.

^^^If Sarah or Newyt do not tell him what to say he has no comment. Since neither of them can comtemplate anything beyond their own navel the search for answers is a moot point.
