Yeah the condos are all pretty much around the main base area. I'd love to come chill at your camp, drink beer, play with fire, then go back to a nice bed and shower

Weather looks a bit iffy for the weekend, hopefully we can pull it off without getting snowed/hailed/lightninged/rained on.
Should be fun! Leaving tomorrow, can't... wait...I'm so hardcore, I'm gnarcore.

Online registration closes Thurs night. You should be fine registering in person on Friday or Sat AM though. Right now there are 24 racers signed up, event is capped at 70.
edit: I don't see Sam on the list... what up with that?

Well, I guess I'm a bit on the fence now. Truck needs some work and I've got Whistler in less than two weeks. Really want to go but need to conserve cash.
There's great camping up the dirt road on the left as you head up the Canyon toward BH. Dark hollow comes out right where the dirt road meets the canyon road. The camping's a couple miles up.
I'd like to go, we'll see how the finances are in a couple days. There's nothing better than sliding down snow and flying through the air.

I am going to bring some Dark Hollow unstoke to this thread. Save yer cash and go to Whistler Sam
.
Good luck to everyone travelling down to Brian Head this weekend. Wife is due to go into labor any minute. Otherwise, I'd be heading down for sure. Such a good track for a superD, and in general a rad place to spend a weekend.Keep it unclipped

I'd never advocate going to Brian Head instead of Whistler. But he should definitely do both.

When I worked in BH and lived in Parowan, Dark Hollow was my commute home. Boss would pick me and my bike up in the morning and I'd take the last chair to the top to access the Peak and drop in. Back then there were a couple different options, Old DH being the gnarlier. Anyway, we always talked about a race on DH but were told the logistics of providing medical and other support made it unpossible. Hope this event grows to a major race.
Good luck to everyone this weekend. Love that fucking trail!كافر

Mini recap:
Great weekend, weather held out and was pretty much perfect. The course was in fantastic condition with the exception of a couple hub-deep, soul-sucking mud bogs mid track.
-46 racers! Almost double last year's turnout. I'm betting next year it hits the max at 70.
-SkiJunky smoked it with 2nd overall fastest time, an insane 19:04
-Mongoose pro bro obliterated the course with an 18:14. I can't even begin to comprehend how he did that.
-beaterdit won his DH class - first ever DH race! - and got 3rd in Super D - sick.
-babybear crushed the women's class and won
-tuadog had a great time in C2, biggest class of the day and podiumed in 5th
-TheProf turned in a great run and won his class
-LOTS of flats: me, Mr AG (athouth he still turned in a solid time), Mrs Tuadog, and many many more... I at least took the time to throw a tube in and finish my ride, so I avoided the dreaded DNF.I'm so hardcore, I'm gnarcore.

Sounds like a great race... and that 18:14 guy is obviously not human.
Glad to hear you rode Thunder while you were there!
That carnage photo makes me want to poke it with a stick.كافر

Hey Particle-
Could you post some pictures of the course, etc? I'm thinking I will likely do this race next year, and would love to see what I'm getting into. Thanks

Sure, I will have to get some GoPro screen captures for ya... race weekends don't lend to much picture taking.

Man this was an awesome and truly brutal Super D. I got my first lap on the course the day before, after practicing all day and then racing the downhill. To ride a hot lap with stops on that trail was punishing, but to ride it at a true race pace without stopping destroyed me. I was worried about flatting so I threw on a pretty heavy High Roller UST in the back and ran 5 psi over what I usually run. Seemed to work but then I'm not pushing quite the pace Partical is. I turned in a 22:26 for the course which I was pretty happy about, and it put me in third in cat 2. Oddly enough that time would have put me in third in cat 1 also, but then there were a lot of cat 1s that flatted, and a lot of racers in all cats for that matter. Also stoked that with my second place finish at Sundance I'm the current State Super D series points leader for cat 2. Have to miss Wolf Mountain though so we'll see what happens there.
The downhill was a blast too and I was totally surprised to win cat 2. The course was more pedally than gnar, with a long flat section about two thirds of the way down. I felt like I was really doggin it and was sitting down toward the end of it before the final drop. Guess my effort was enough, though it was close with less than ten seconds separating the podium.
Overall a great weekend of racing and I can't wait to get back there next year for this event. Great primer and confidence booster for my first Whistler trip, which I leave for in the morning! There's nothing better than sliding down snow and flying through the air.

Heh, sorry man, haven't had a chance to get into it with the video editor. I have a couple plane flights this weekend so that could be a fun time-passer.

Bump... who's going?
I got an angry email from the race director when I asked if I could race pro with a day license. I guess that does come off pretentious as fuck but...
Anyway, I'm likely going. Any course profiles?

I'll be there this year.
Excited to ride the course/race.
Riding the Whole Enchilada, sky diving in Moab, and visiting Zion before hand.
Where do people camp there? Parking lot ok? Good places near buy? Anything good to know beyond the obvious?
Excited to meet some new bike mags and catch up with some others I haven't seen in a bit.

Registered. One of the best races of the year. Stoked. There's good camping at the bottom of the pass or up outside BH itself. I've also done the parking lot the night before the race.

The camp spots at the bottom of the pass are quite nice. If you drink wine from a box and listen to phish all night you may lose a shoe in the river. just sayin'
