The ghost in my machine
So I was exporting a roughcut I am working on for a client to post online. I make a low res viewing quicktime, post it to the site and my producer calls me frantically saying I need to pull it, re-export and fix an "audio glitch" in a certain segment. I assumed it was something due to the low quality and he is hearing things. Well, I just watched it and this is what he is talking about... weird.
Everything before this little part and after is 100% perfect (half-hour show). I looked at the time line and all is good. I have had some weird glitches on export before but this one takes the cake!

He'll approve in a couple of weeks when his episode that I crushed premieres. His episode is going to blow away Wakefield's and Flutie's (the only ones I have done as of now).
I really have no clue how it happened either. First type of glitch that bad I have ever seen audio wise. And it wasn't near any weird audio cut or transition, the timeline was actually really clean there. Could of happened from me switching between apps to check on the progress of the export I guess? That is my only explanation.

It is called "After the Game" and it is going to be on NESN. I am not 100% sure on the finalized air schedule. The last calendar/schedule I got had the first episode airing Friday, 9/3 @ 11PM (Wakefield) and a new one every Friday night from there on. I think that is when my other show Pocket Money is airing too from what I have been told. I think it's going to be a block of my stuff. Stoked!

wasn't there a grammy winner once amongst us? he should be able to figure it out.
can you slow down the audio to try and figure out what it says? that should be your first clue. i bet you made a call or watched another video and some of the atoms crossed wires in the audio processing unit
ps: i bet the audio is sped up by the factor with which you're encoding faster than 30fpsLast edited by f2f; 08-16-2010 at 07:49 PM.

Reminds me of this:
Btw, just out of curiosity, what's the edit time like for you on a half hour show?

All the half-hour shows I have worked on tend to end up in the 22-23 minute time frame. I worked on a show for Animal Planet and we needed to cut two different lengths which I guess is common for nationally broadcast shows. IT was an hour show and we needed to cut a 48 minute version and a 52 minute version (or something like that I forgot the actual times).
But yeah, I try to rough it out to 24 minutes. Do a viewing and when I get notes and do revisions, I really trim the fat, tighten everything up and try to come as close to 22:30 as I can. I am lucky that the cuts don't have to be timesd down to the frames which I had to do on a show once. That fucking sucked.

DOH!
Now that is a tough one to answer. The series I just finished was a very low budget "man on the street" trivia show with only 2 cameras, gfx for the questions/answers he was asking and my total time from start to finish for each episode was 3 days. Much prep was involved to log all the footage prior to editing any of the episodes so if I was doing all of that per episode it would be about a week with revisions to picture lock.
The series I am working on now is much different. sit down interviews, steadicam tours of peoples houses, archive footage, stills of them growing up and pretty much a mixed bag of all types of media. These episodes are not cookie-cutter like the last series I was explaining. These actually take story telling ability where the other show doesn't. So far I have been able to get an episode roughed out in 7 days with 3 rounds of revisions that take maybe a few hours each revision so let's say 8-9 days from start to picture lock.

Premiere is Friday at 5:30PM right after Pocket Money which I also cut. So an hour block every Friday of my shit on NESN starting at 5PM. They will also rerun that evening later on and a couple times over the course of the following week. Matt Lights episode turned out to be the premiere instead of Tim Wakefield.
Here is a promo on Boston.com for the show (this I didn't cut):

Watch it if you're interested and don't if you're not.
