They just want to make a legal living

Northeastern Wisconsin marijuana bust turns up thousands of plants

    BY PAUL SRUBAS • psrubas@greenbaypressgazette.com • August 12, 2010

Up to 50,000 marijuana plants may be destroyed by the time authorities wrap up their investigation of a large grow operation shut down this week, Oconto County Sheriff Michael Jansen said today.

Authorities already have harvested 10,000 marijuana plants and seized 200 to 300 pounds of processed pot from a home near Seymour that was part of the operation, Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

Local, state and federal authorities spoke today in Oconto about the drug bust that has eight men facing federal drug-trafficking charges in connection to pot grow operations in Oconto and Menominee counties.

More than 200 federal, state and local agents worked on the case, which took them to at least 10 grow sites.

That operation is linked to a Sept. 29 bust of a large marijuana growing operation in the Navarino Wildlife Preserve in Shawano County, authorities said today. At that time, authorities seized about 8,000 marijuana plants and found several camp bases.

At today’s news conference, officials said the investigation was a difficult balancing act between protecting the public from dangerous people and gathering information for their investigation.

They noted the importance of arresting the individuals involved before the fall hunting seasons when more people would be in those rural areas.

“People can feel very safe going into public lands largely because we have citizens willing to contact law enforcement” when they come across suspicious activity, Van Hollen said.

He would not comment on whether this grow system is part of a larger system of drug production and distribution.

Officials became aware of the grow operation in 2008 when a hunter was checking the area he typically goes to and came across a pot growing site, authorities said.

A traffic stop by a Clintonville police officer in 2009, in which marijuana leaves were found throughout a car, also played a key role in the investigation, officials said today.

The men arrested Wednesday — Salvador Montez-Canchola, Raul Juvenal Avila-Rodriguez, Jesus DeLaTorre-Avila, Javier Navarro-Zanagoza, Gustavo Barragon-Mendoza, Jorge Omar Perez-Hipolito, Genaro Avila-Rodriguez and Adalberto Valencia — are scheduled for detention hearings on Friday and for preliminary hearings on Aug. 24, all in federal court in Green Bay.

The men are charged with conspiring to distribute and manufacture more than 1,000 marijuana plants and with possession with intent to distribute more than 100 marijuana plants.

Additional arrests and charges will happen in the coming days.

Two things the article from the Press Gazzette fails to mention:

    1) All but one of the guys arrested are ILLEGAL ALIENS.

    2) These idiots cut down lots of trees in the Nicolet National Forest and the Menominee Reservation (all of Menominee County is Tribal land) to make clearings so they could grow their weed.

I don't really care that these morons were growing pot on a large scale (I don't smoke weed, but I'm allfor it being legalised) , but fucking up National Forest and Tribal land to do it is inexcusable. But hey - DBS - I bet they worked way harder than a lazy white guy to destroy all that land!

    They are providing a service.

Our nation is built on entrepreneurship and chasing the dream. They are "The Real American Heros" in my opinion. They're the essence of Americana and what this country represents.
