Good first post, It is lame. Humbles' new handle should be 'judgmental dick'

The Utah ski scene still pretty small, I'm sure many of these people here expressing concern and well wishes are doing so on a personal level, not because he got "popped by the man".
Also, no one here has tried to defend his actions, just that they hope he ends up in a better place after all this.

Agreed, I'm no saint and EJ's story makes me feel humble. It may be that I'm older and fatter now. Back in the past, long enough ago that I probably can't be prosecuted plus a few extra years, I did things in College that could have gotten me in trouble. In fact, I have fond memories of the Grateful Dead in 1995, Salt Lake City at the Delta Center, there was nothing in my car that could have gotten us in trouble that trip Moral of the story, I was lucky, as were many others here. I wouldn't be casting stones in this situation, someone was very unlucky, it could have been me or so many of us at other times in our lives, Vibes to those who weren't/aren't so lucky...

The guy fucked up, live and learn. Sucks he took his buddy down being a dumbass. Utah cops don't pursue vehicles? I feel like pulling over a Tacoma wouldn't be all that hard... Sucks that it turned so ugly for a great skier.

Humble, your a dick. I have had some of the best times of my life smoking pot and wouldn't trade them for anything. It'd be interesting to see how quick your view would change if your kid was the one getting busted for pot and thrown in the slammer.

I know EJ personally. His house is not a "distribution point" he is not "living a life style of drugs, guns and money". He is broke dick, he hasn't been working much, he's just trying to pay his bills and trying to keep his house from getting foreclosed on. As far as the gun, he has a concealed carry permit as do I and thousands of other people who live in Utah.

And Humble, how do you even know the Buddage was his anyway? Most everyone I know from J-Hole are cool, you seem to be the exception. You're probably not even from Jackson anyway, probably from the East Coast where most douche bags come from.
    Hunting kicks ass.

I'll keep my job, my money and my guns and you can keep the change.

JD, it sound like you know the guy or have skied with him... but you gotta agree that this guy acted like an idiot. He ran from the cops (with a very low profile license plate of FROM VT), had guns visible from outside the house and had a stand off with cops for hours. I don't think thats really normal. I hope the best for this dude, and humble maybe was a little harsh, but it sounds like the dude fucked up pretty good... doesn't it? I have had my close calls that would have cost me some free time, but for whatever reason I walked away with minimal damage. But I still look back and say I was an idiot and don't try to condone my actions to anyone. I get the vibes, but most people in these situations have gone through rough times, thats why there in these situations... but it still doesn't give us/me the right to turn a blind eye.

I hope the dude gets the help he needs to get his life back on track. Because guns, drugs, and cop evasion usually means something went wrong along the way.

What have you done, since you like finger pointing and all that? You've done nothing but pontificate. it's what saintly folk love to do.

    Get a life.

I think there is probably a whole lot more to this story. A paragraph in a news rag usually fails at describing one's life.

    Again...+++Vibes+++ to EJ.

In Cottonwood Heights they would arrest you for "guns and drugs," if you had a water gun and childrens asprin.

They just arrest and let the court system take care of the rest, its up to you to prove your innocence. The property tax revenues are down and the city gov't officials salaries get paid by tax revenue or fines that have been paid.

I wouldn't be surprised if EJ was originally getting pulled over because his license plates shows he's not a local.

I know I have been pulled over in Cottonwood Heights for having out of state license plates because I "didn't look like I knew where I was going."

Cottonwood Heights also has a ridiculous amount of cops, they value police protection more than sidewalks that kids can use to walk to school.

After that who knows what happened, but I bet his neighborhood is having multiple neighborhood meetings to discuss how a "drug kingpin" lived amongst them. If you're not their friend, you are their enemy.
    ------------

Here is one from skiing main chute on the 4th, here's to better days for EJ and Jason

I feel really bad for the guy, it seems he has been through some shit.

However, he is an idiot, or at least is acting as one.

Permit or no, any gun owner that leaves a gun (presumably loaded) lying unattended in their driveway is a fucking moron, and makes responsible gun owners look bad.

Running from the cops over a traffic stop? Also fucking retarded. Seriously, one of the stupidest things you can possibly do. Cops dont have the right to search your vehicle without reasonable suspicion. Evading arrest was the only thing that gave them that right. Didnt he think to himself that theyd see his license plate and come to his house? It honestly scares me that someone that cant understand that concept is a gun owner.

It was 2am and he was supposedly speeding and driving recklessly. I wonder if he fled because he was drinking and he figured if he could stall long enough to sober up a bit it would be in his best interest?

We all make mistakes, and like I said, I feel really bad for the guy, but my empathy extends just far enough to hope he gets his shit together and is able to lead a better life. Just because we both slide down snow on the same mountains doesnt mean I feel any kinship with him. I have known LOTS of douchebags that were skiers, especially at Alta. If I wasnt broke as shit and was looking to give money to help someone out, this guy would NOT be at the top of the list. I'd give my money to someone who is doing everything in their power to help themselves and is still struggling, whether they were a badass skier or not would be completely irrelevant.

thank buddha i am not burdened with any sense of superiority. assuming ej is able to once again walk the path of beauty it would be my deepest honor to say that when things were looking very dark for him that i spent nothing more than loving kindness and compassion (and a postage stamp) to assist him. everyone in this tribe IS my brother or sister - especially the d bags. the only way to turn a sows ear into a silk purse is to work with it.

    Running from the cops
    Dropping a concealed weapon
    House full of dope
Forcing a stand off with the heat
    Screwing his room mate

Not exactly the role model I want to present to my kids, no matter how fuckin good a skier he was.

On the other hand, no one got hurt, he didn't shoot his gun, and if all he had was some poundage of weed, he may get some sympathy because of his past.

It's fine to talk about his accomplishments.
It's fine to regret his accident and career cut short.
It's fine to say let the courts sort it out.
It's also obvious that this guy made more than a few bad choices. That's not a hard judgement to make.
Whether he is a bad person or a good person, I don't have the ability to say that.

Never heard of the guy, all I know about him I read here and found on a quick google search. Trauma can fuck people up real bad. I've seen a great guy get a head injury then become a crack head then get dead. Probably wasn't the brightest choice to run from the cops but if you're fucked up you don't always make the best choices. I hope he gets his shit together, I've seen the alternative and wish it on no one.

I don't know too many hunters that use hand guns. Maybe I should rephrase, " concealed guns are fucked" .

it wouldnt play up here and I don't really understand the gun thing at all ,I don't own any guns cuz I don't hunt and the CCW permit just makes me scratch my head cuz the only people who do that up here are in gangs and why would you need one unless you were in a gang ?

but isnt it in the constitution for every american to own guns ?

Well I go out in the woods with my $20 hunting liscense find an animal that looks tasty. Offer him a prayer for providing me with food.. I use every single bit of the animal except his guts...Maybe %50 is a bit high I would say that %20 of that is fish from our rivers, streams, and lakes.. Right now I still have substantial amount of meat leftover from last fall so I might start thinking about donating the rest to charity. I think a greater understanding of nature can be found by harvesting your own food. Just ask Treadway..

if EJ had a permit to carry then all you got is some weed in his house and failure to come out when called

you have to establish who owned the weed and if it was being trafficed

maybe the po-lice don't think its reasonable they can get a conviction?
