missed yesterday, looked at it but was kinda meh. looked better once i got to work. so it goes.

this morning however was a super pleasant surprise. went just for a look before riding my bike to work. only brought the lb and the dog. mistake. solid waist high+ sets were rolling through with light offshores with just one supper and a friend of mine out. paddled out on the lb, caught a few and was bored stiff and pining for the 5'10. then i noticed the dog trying to get out of the car (a new thing) so i got out, ran her home, grabbed the 5'10, and had some fun. as the tide came in the shape got better and better with a nice a-frame and long shoulder deal happening. my last wave was perfect. waist high and steep enough for some ripping off the top turns with deep cutback fin gouging. even got a super nice compliment as i was walking up to my car. a long time local surfer said, "man you made that look easy" love that.

    tomorrow looks promising.

    to worky i go........

Rog, your area surf report has the water at 55-57 degrees, is that correct? Also, what does the water temp get up to in the summer? Inquiring minds wants to know...

Looks like some surf is on tap in The OC for the next couple of days, 2.9ft @ 15s SSE & 2.8 @ 15s WSW - should make for some nice combo peaks and HH waves for me

    jtran- San-O tonight?

^^^wow you are getting way more of the S.

Maine breaks into the 60s for summer and early fall. Despite what rog might tell you (he wears a 4/3??? all summer) it can get quite nice. I spent time in board shorts the past two summers, but for "serious" surf sessions, I wore my buddies old 3/2 and was plenty warm. I plan to pack my shorty for this summer, and borrow a 3/2 if I need it. Gonna bring my son's shorty for him, and expect he will be super stoked on the warmth. BTW, it also gets very cold in Maine with water temps down below 50 and I can recall dead of winter days where it hit sub 40.

Summer warmth really depends on how strong the Gulf Stream is, and if it eddies warm water in when/if it pushes up past the Cape. And when the Labrador pushes back in Oct/Nov, temps can plummet overnight.

I really do miss Maine between September through December, after the tourist leave, and before the cold arrives, and while hurricanes finishes off their season and Nor'Easters begin theirs. Such fond memories of epic, uncrowded surf. Literally days where you would try to find someone, anyone, to get in the water with you. I can remember surfing overhead Moody Point rights all by myself after calling everyone I knew and knocking on every door. Solo, at a rare, rare treat. Imagine big peaks and big bottom turns, followed by a stalled wall that when it finally began to rip down the point would peel at a foot over head for a couple hundred yards over large cobbles and small boulders. It breaks like that perhaps once or twice a year.

Wow, so Maine/New England surf is as epic as Rog makes it sound, huh. I just thought Rog was raving lunatic who could have fun anywhere on anything

My touring partner Highanxiety always talks about Maine as well but I just figured he lived in VT and would be happy to surf anything. Might need to take trip East in the fall....

pw, going down to SD tonight so no go. Planning on tomorrow assuming Eric mails me our shared park pass today like he said he would.

Had a fun dawn patrol this morning, and the sun actually poked out of the clouds while I was out too. Nice combo windswell waves in carlsbad, waist-chest high.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I was 21, and most likely torched. I can also recall pissing off my friends repeatedly when I would comment about how perfect the beach break would be on any given day, if only I was the size of a squirrel. But it does have its days and generally all 27 surfers in southern Maine are at one break. And compared to the endless beach and jetty breaks from the City to the Everglades, the reefs, points, coves and ledges are super fun in NE.

well if you like to surf well more than half the days in a calendar year in mostly clean conditions with multiple good breaks and maybe just you or not many others more often than not, then you'd love maine. we don't have consistantly big or powerful surf, but everything weighed out, i wouldn't want to live anywhere else. ok maybe mid december to mid march in central america. i have trouble booking trips to warmer climates cuz i feel very spoiled here overall. did a coupla winters in utah years ago, but it killed me to be more than a short drive to the beach and miss waves all winter. now i can surf and ski on the same day most any day i want all winter.

water temps. down to near 40 +- in winter. 5/4 hood 5mm mitts 7mm boots. rest of year 4/3. cept old 4/3 mid summer. a leaky 4/3 is as good as a good 3/2, but i'm recycling the old 4/3 allowing avoiding buying another suit mid 50's now.

    What kind of beer?

And visits him in late September/ early October. If you give yourself a few weeks time, you won't be disappointed. But, as pointed out, don't expect much size or power even compared to SoCal. Even NY, NJ and NC pack a bunch mor punch. But it does tend to be super clean and the only place I've been that can really work the 6-8s period stuff well.

OTOH, rog is crazy as fuck. We all know that.

i have a connection to a local brewery, many great flavors. as much as i love my cheap beer, this is cheaper. had a party at the house for fathers day. i bought a variety of for, ready? 2 1/2 cases, or 60 bottles of beer for, ready? $13.50. not a typo. that's exactly $ .225 per beer, ya 22 1/2 cents per beer

still have 3 6 packs left of the ipa. saved the best for me and my gal

You drink NH brew? Shame on you.

When I lived in Wells, one of my buddies and I would sometimes head down to Portsmouth in the early winter to see other human beings, buy American Spirits and hand out in a coffee house. One of our other buddies could not understand why we would ever travel so far south and out of state for any reason, as if he were from Down East, and not just a hop across the border.

So, can you get another case of the IPA for say, around July 20th? And seriously, do they can or just bottle? Looking for something to drink while chilling on the beach all day.

    HAT TRICK!!!

ok so since my last^^^post life got a lil bit mo bettah. true story i shit you not:

so i'm out back getting ready to take out trash/recycling, my favorite part of my job, seriously, it's true. anyway, i'm talking with a co-worker and her hubby comes in and he just so happens to be the head brewer at the brewery i have a connection to, but he's not my connection. she introduces me and i immediately tell him just how much i LOVE his beer. he then says, "well yer talking to the right guy, i'll have to get you a bunch only probelem is figuring out how to get it to you without bugging you at work". i then point to my crv and tell him the backs always unlocked. he then says, "that works, what's yer favorite of my beers?" i tell him, "ipa".

    fkna and it great!?

17.5 cents just got real cheap. fuck central merica!!!
