The scene at the end of "Lonesome Dove" where Captain Call is talking to the reporter gets me every time.
Decent people shouldn't live here...they'd be happier somewhere else.

Shit man, all of these are good but for a really fucked up evening, watch a decent 9/11 documentary. I'm watching "Inside 9/11" which isn't in itself all that spectacular, but people's first hand accounts and the footage they show of that day is pretty fucking intense. Hard to watch, for sure.

Life is Beautiful, possibly the saddest and most inspirational movie I've ever seen. I'm always balling during the ending.

Several parts of Lord of the Rings get me too. The biggest one is probably when during the charge of the Rohirrim during Return of the King. For some reason it just gets me to watch a few thousand people charging at full speed into certain death. Gandalf falling off the bridge of Khazad Dum and Sam/Frodo being stranded on Mt. Doom were both pretty emotional too. Or when Sam tries to follow Frodo and almost drowns. Shit that movie is full of tear jerker moments.
All I know is that I don't know nothin'... and that's fine.

Agreed on Marley and Me: that was rough! I remember going to the movie with my then gf and as we get into the car to drive there she says "I brought tissues." I said, "Why? Oh....no...no (as I slowly connected the dots in my head). We can't need tissues..." The end - especially when Marley had trouble dealing with stairs - painfully reminded me of my Golden Retriever that I grew up with. Great movie - and book - but definitely a tearjearker.

    Dear Zachary.

I challenge anyone to watch that and not lose it. I cried for a good 30 minutes after that one. Wife cried even longer. Wonderful documentary, but don't watch it before bed. Goes double for parents.

The montage at the end of 25th Hour got me, which I was not expecting. Underrated movie in general.

    Finding Neverland

I really enjoy this movie, have seen it three times and the spigot opens up every time when they recreate the play and show Neverland to the sick mom

....just thinking of it is getting me misty

As mentioned, the opening of UP
Waking Ned Devine -- especially the funeral scene
Contact -- when the young Ellie tries to contact her Dad after he passes away -- this really gets me now that I have my own kid and we do astro observing sessions and study science together.
Gattaca -- the swimming scene + the end
Lord of the Rings -- the ending, where they realize that things cannot go back to the way they were

In a similar sense, and maybe an equally bad movie with moments of dustiness, Frequency. When gets to play softball with his father.

For me, the saddest part of Contact was the part where it got made.

Just watched The Descendents. The pollen count went through the roof when they told the little girl about her mom.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

^ From that perspective, the saddest part in Contact was when the preacher said something like how science and religion are both interested in the search for truth, and nobody called his bullshit.
