with the mess carter left, reagan could have based policy on the stream-of-conscious ramblings of stuckathuntermtn and still probably been successful, although he did even better. right man at the right time, but right time was the overarching factor. that is impeccable timing. this cult of reagan is greatly misguided

Yeah, pretty true on much of your post, and Reagan has been deified a bit too much, but I'll still take him over many others of late.

omg, it's like a elephant sucking on his own trunk.
What prosperity in the 80s? The gross over-estimation and creation of wealth at the top of the pyramid, much of which just came crashing down? That prosperity?No longer stuck.
