    Michigan TR

Just got back from our annual trip to northern michigan. If only Michigan had real mountains it would be paradise. But enough with that onto the fish.

My wife and dad chipped in and got a charter for my birthday, only my second time fishing with down riggers, planer boards, etc. It was fun, but I won't be getting set up for this kind of fishing anytime soon. It was really cool being out there with my dad though since you never know when time will run out.

    Ashley hooked up.

Then it was my dads turn.

I got lucky and landed the two biggest fish, two lake trout 27" and 28", both returned to fight another day.

Then we headed to the river one night. Water temps where hovering right around 70* so we just sat around. Finally we saw some risers below a little riffle so I figured if they where active enough for that then why not try. Second cast I hooked into this guy. Turns out that was all that was around so we called it a night.

We also spent most nights on our lake jigging for perch and rock bass. The camera was left at home all but one night. Lots of fish where caught, with only a few big ones, but hey they are still a lot of fun, especially when you can watch them bite in 15-20 feet of water.

It was a great trip that was over way too soon, but at least we will be back next summer.

That's some serious hardware on that boat! That must have been fun.

A perch fry is sounding good right now.

Isn't a perch fry about the best thing on the planet? A squeeze of lemon and some lawry's .... I am way too far away from perch. Unfortunately, they are threatened in WI waters, where I grew up.

When I lived in the Central Valley of California, a friend of mine had a bass pond. Bluegill and perch were overabundant. At least twice a month in the spring and summer, he would have a perch fry. The culling of these fish helped the bass population. It also made our stomachs happy.

That's ok, DP. More pictures would just make us hungrier.

I love rock bass they have such sweet eyes. Michigan fishing is amazing you can score a little bit of everything. I caught this bad boy a couple weeks ago......36'' and 13ish pounds.
