Anyone drive a Prius?
Starting to think about looking for a used Prius. The wife and I have been sharing a car for a little while, but upcoming work duties are going to necessitate another car.
Any thoughts? Anyone bought a Prius lately? Anyone know of any deals in the NE? How many miles would you consider buying one for? Would love to spend less than $10k. Thanks all

I don't know about TGR but I personally could find many cars that are way more fun for $8000 and spend the other two grand on the difference in gas over a few years.
If you're doing it to save money that doesn't fly. If you're doing it to save the earth, tell me where the battery goes when the car is junked.
Plus, yeah, you'll look like a fag.

If economy and reliability are a concern you can do a lot better with ten grand. A honda civic comes to mind. Or for that matter a corolla, though the honda is more comfy. Or you could just get an impreza if you like your current subie and frequent snowy climes.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

Or a TDi Jetta. My friends got 50 MPG, it is sort of fun to drive, and, more importantly, its not a Prius. It is an older model, not sure what year.
The whole human race is de evolving; it is due to birth control, smart people use birth control, and stupid people keep pooping out more stupid babies.

FWIW my sister and bro-n-law just picked up a new 2010 Yaris for ~14K out the door in Chicago. It's, a gas sipper, surprisingly spacious inside, and parallel parks in spots that are inconceivably small.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

I would tend to look at a used Civic, or Accord. For example my 2001 Accord gets 6.6 L/100km (average with manual trans) and were a Prius gets 5.0 to 4.5 L/100 km. Not too much of a difference, especially when you look at the price point, maintenance, and fun to drive factor.
Especially if you are going to do a lot of highway driving I won't look at the Prius.
Just my opinion."A lack of planning and preparation on your part does not make it an emergency on my part."

If you buy a Prius, maybe you could follow Jeremy's Clarkson's advice.

Not long ago I got a 95 Civic with only 107k on it. Ran me $2000, yea I don't have any bells and whistles but who cares. I get about 45 mpg on the highway and 35 mpg in town. Does just fine driving in the snow with studs and I only loose a few MPG with two bikes on the roof.
You can do better than a Prius for way less.If you open a second beer and don't miss a beat between sips, is that two beers or just one 24 ouncer? -Tye 1on

Nah, I need something that gets better gas mileage. I love my Subie, especially for driving in snow, but it really is a gas guzzler compared to what we're looking to add to the stable.
This is solid advice. Definitely not opposed to going this route. Anyone in the NE want to sell me a Civic?

You think about something like a Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe(essentially same car, joint venture between Toyota and Pontiac). Pretty solid gas milage and you get the added convenience of a wagon. We rented a Vibe for a week a while back and it wasn't a bad car at all. Between Toyota's recent negative publicity and Pontiac shutting down I think both would be a pretty solid value right now.

Under 10k you're looking 03-05 ish 70k+ according to my quick craigslist search.
If you're looking for that age and mileage there are millions of better cars for the price. If you spend enough time in your car that you think a hybrid will even make a dent in your gas costs. You don't want to be passing that time in a shit box. Traffic sucks, commuting sucks, why make it suck more?

The back and forth w/ice at the start of this thread is the bombay.
If you do get a Prius, make sure to post here everyday about what a great earth-conscious douchebag you are.
