I'm in.
Booked in Nendaz next winter.
Now, if anyone knows any good snow dances and can recommend when to start them it would be greatly appreciated.

Skinny skis, one piece fur accented Bogner suit, 80's era Vaurnets, no toque, rear entry boots, gobs of money.......
Am I forgetting anything?

Last year I rented a chalet in nendaz, was mostly there weekends and used it as a base for ski tours in the valais.
But it seems everyone has answered everything I could ever say.
The bus down to sion is frequent enough and short, but not very frequent so you always have to do some planning and occasionally waste 45 minutes in sion. Sundays are the worst, the rest of the week is usually fine.
I definitely mostly got over to Siviez as quickly as possible, not that the stuff around Nendaz was worthless just its not comparable to Mont Fort which in itself is often not the best place to go. Going East would often reward you with fresh powder and little competition.
I always find early season the best since there are far less tourists. In januarz the south facing slopes are often fine 1-2 days after some wintry sun, by March anything south facing is cooked within hours.
Canadian pub is legendry, but is mostly full of teenage swiss kids from Sion.

I did last season in Nendaz, pretty much everything has been covered already but you can get free wifi access in the cactus and canadien bars although you'll need to buy a massively expensive drink, think there are a couple of other places too the Nendaz channel on the TV will list them all along with a few that have computers although you have to pay for them.
If you want a phone and can't use yours with a Swiss SIM then the post office is pretty cheap, think I paid CHF 15 for one with CHF 10 of credit, you just need to take your passport so they can photocopy it.
Struggled to find people in Nendaz to ski with but met quite a few staying other places over the season. Have a great trip.

Thanks for the Internet/phone tip, it was one of the last things on the list.
Anyone out there use one of those USB modems? Something like this?
It looks like a decent deal but my french is weak and I don't want to sign up for something and get burned......I figure its the sort of thing that will be easier to figure out one I actually get there.Last edited by rrmiller; 10-05-2010 at 10:28 PM. Reason: fail at speeling.

yeah I use the swisscom USB modem. Decently fast and quite cheap. But I had to go to geneva/lausanne or martigny to buy it, the verbier shops did not sell it.

IMHO the best option for temporary phoning (and limited net access, no heavvy use!) is Sunshine Prepaid + Internet (www.sunshine.ch).

Sunshine or SunRISE?

Bit of a random one here, Should I bring my camping gear? Is anyone going to notice/care if I spend a night out on the mountain?
Is it just going to be more crap to bring with me?

ahh good memories, you've got a lot of exploring to look forward to. just remember though, january is dead, fresh tracks are everywhere, take advantage of it because in feb/mar it can be a whistler style gong show for the best lines.
