If that 'someone' had an aura of unparalleled steeze, then it definitely was not me.

My Praxis are mounted as such and note 6'2", 190 lbs nekked, kind of top heavy due to skinny legs. Point being there may be some torque to my tips because of the body mass up top (or big ego).

Powder Rx ............mounted 104 cm from tip
Powder 195...........mounted 105.3
Powder 195 ..........mounted 104
BC Carbon 190.......mounted 105.5
Mtn Freeride 187... mounted 101.5

It's only 1.3 cm mount difference between the two 195 powder skis but they feel and perform quite differently . I prefer the 105+ mount.

Did you ever happen to get a weight of your carbon BCs pre-mounting? Or even post-mounting with Dynafits? Curious how the weight came out. Thanks.

I didn't weigh them but I can be a total dork and take to the post office and weigh them with the bindings. I don't have a scale at the house.

Ha - well it is up to you! I am sure Keith can provide the weight regardless. Was just curious as I love my BCs as a daily inbounds ski, but love the minimal weight of my Stokes for touring...

So, a friend of mine recently came out and skied quite a few different skis. I wanted to get him on a pair of freerides, but they weren't being demoed anywhere I could find. He's half (or more) sold on a pair, but I wanted to get some feedback on whether they may match his requirements. He has great form, stays balanced, goes reasonably fast, never hucks.

He skied salomon shoguns, moment tahoes, volkl mantras, rossignol s3s and something else (can't recall) while he was out. he's probably around 150 lbs, 5'6".

He liked the shoguns, but found them a bit short (173? 172? ). He skied the mantras in a 170 and 177, and preferred the 177 for everything, but found them a touch hard to initiate turns on. He found the s3s (178) squirrely and didn't like them at all. No real feedback on the tahoes, since it was a deep day, and he basically spent the whole time with the skis submerged.

I was hoping that the freerides would give easier turn initiation than the 177 mantras with their early rise, and have more float than anything he tried. The latter seems safe, the former, I'm not sure. He definitely didn't like the "turnier" s3 feel much at all, but wanted a bit more responsiveness before he got up to speed.

Reasonable suggestion?

End of season Praxis thread bump. I put over in 20 touring days on my carbon Protests in almost every condition possible and was super happy with them. I'll echo the previous statements that it has one of the best shapes out there for powder. They're a great touring option for those that want a fat, fun and reasonably light ski. I see on the website that all of next year's Protests will have the carbon/glass layup.
I'm already thinking about the Concepts next year for a soft snow hill ski.
Fat Yeti, wondering what you thought about the Concepts compared to some of the other skis you've reviewed, particularly the Bibby Pro. Thanks.
I hope Keith had a great year and can continue to produce such unique and fun skis.

Rumor has it that Keith has a bunch of skis built and waiting to be finished.

Keith is killin' it this year. He doubled the size of his shop, brought in new machines and he and Kevin and a few other guys have been on it all summer.
Very impressive what they've done.

Any changes to the protest or powder boards for next season, or new super fat model ?

The 2012 lineup looks sick. I wouldnt think of getting skis from another company!

Wow! Those new Protests are a ski I need to try at some point.

196 Protest bangin most bestest ski ever. The idea of a 200 instead of a 195 powboard is cool. I still dont really get having rocker in the middle of the ski with 2 cambered zones fore and aft on the BPS.

Great looking skis as usual. If this season hadn't (there is still a small hope) been the slowest in a decade I'd be looking at another pair.

Really nice! I bet the artwork for the BPS is going to be amazing. I would love to hear a succinct explanation of why one would ski the protest over the BPS, or vice versa. Maybe I'll just email them.

Sweet stuff. I love my Protests and BCs. Protests are the most fun ski I have ever ridden. The new Pow Board graphic is pretty cool.

I always toss this up before I go out on a bottomless day. Take the Powboards (195) or take the Protests (196)? I love my Powboads because they are the best tree skis around but if there is any terrain that opens up the Protests just live to truck, huck and stomp. If I had the cash I would definitely get a pair of the 196 carbons, bolt my plums on them and make them the greatest POW touring set up of all time.

I am probably going to get some Protests this year.
