    sleeping pad/bag combo for shasta?

    first time camping on snow and im wondering if my z-lite and 20deg bag will be enough insulation for a 3 day shasta trip the first week of june. do i need a thicker pad or warmer bag?

    Your bag is probably fine (if it's colder than that, wear your puffy jacket in the bag), but you'll want something besides the z-lite IMO.

    My snow camping setup is a short Downmat 7 plus my blue ensolite square (and my pack). If I feel like more, I'll take the full-length z-lite instead of the ensolite. The r-value on the Downmat is through the roof.

    The cheap way to do it is pick up a full-length ensolite ($25 at REI) and take that and the z-lite. Not heavy, but you gotta find places to strap both to your pack--which is obviously a pain.

    When I used to do a lot of snow camping we used to lay one of those mylar space blankets on the tent floor. It's amazing how much difference it makes.
