definitely going to write an extremely passive aggressive email whilst i am layed up in bed for the foreseeable future. if no one has started a FB page, i have the time and energy to do it, and will do so immediately. i would appreciate a writeup from someone who knows dalton and the situation a bit more personally, as i've only met dalton once i believe. if someone wants to do this and send it to me or post here, i'll start a page.

Good on you man. This guy deserves our support. Salomon is not stepping up to the plate like they should, that's just fucking wrong.

Explain to me how Salomon can pay dividends to different people than Wilson does.
If you can't, fuck right off.

The dividends are payd to the same people. But they those people don't interfere with day to day business of their comps (Suunto, Atomic, Wilson, 'Ryx or Salomon).
The decisions that had catastrophic results for TC were made by Salomon, not by those working for Amer. As I pointed out, one of the grand ideas and practice of Amer is to be solely a holding company, ie. owner and not interfere on how the brands operate.

Well you and I both know that change is instilled from above. A holding company that takes no interest in HOW the products that are produced by the companies they hold are put into production, then they stand to hold a massive amount of liability when those products fail.
If they're "just too big" to be able to ensure the quality of all the products their umbrella subsidiaries produce, well maybe they should be fucking smaller. There is no excuse, and nobody is going to listen and make a change if nobody makes a stink.
I personally don't want to set a precedent i.e.- There might be 3-4 catastrophic injuries or deaths with their next product because they make more money rushing it to production and just paying off the injured than actually turning out a well-tested and strong product to begin with. That is exactly why product liability exists. If I'm not mistaken I believe this is called feduciary duty- i.e. We sell a boot that has tech inserts in it and we have a duty to make sure that they won't rip out on a very basic ski movement. I want to let Amer/Fall-a-man know just how I feel and why because I want to them to change. If the wheel doesn't squeak, it's not going to get grease.
Perhaps Salomon has a shitty excuse... We don't know because they will continue to hide behind product liability lawyers rather than level with the skiers rightfully questioning the effort put into making their products safe. I'll tell you one thing- Until I have been made aware of new measures put into effect to ensure that this will never happen again, I will NEVER buy another Salomon/Amer product EVER.
If you want to reward an umbrella corp that takes no vested interest in the safety of theose that choose to purchase their products, good for you. Jean-yves Couput Hi Nate (and all)! My name is Jean-Yves Couput and I'm the Marketing Director for Salomon USA. We do appreciate your initiative, and we propose you to answer to the questions that are asked by this page's friends in regards to this situation. We are currently focusing our resources and energy on return of the products ...and investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the potential incompatibility. Mike Aicher, our product specialist and Nick Papailiou and myself will try to be as informative as possible in regards to the legal guidances we must respect. But most importantly, we'd like to re-iterate that we regret the accident which happened to Dalton.

At the very least, the managers of Salomon know that if they don't produce profits for Amer they will be replaced. And if they create greater profits they may get bonuses.
Amer gets to appoint the boards of directors of all the brands they own and thus they have absolute control of the companies.

We respect your opinions, but it is also fair to say that as a company being in the ski industry for more than 60 years and born with alpine bindings, the safety of the skiers is our top priority. As of we were informed about the accident we have acted upon the information by publishing the safety notice on the different blogs (Lou's and TGR's) as ... See Morea precautionary measure.
We never stop working on the technical development of our products. We investigate the case, which unfortunately takes time because if there's an official standard (ISO 9523) for ski boots in use with alpine bindings, there are no standards related to the steel fittings in all terrain boots.
When we'll have sufficient details, we will release them upon approval from the authorities. As you know, because of the recall action we launched and the legal procedure, we cannot talk directly to Dalton nor release any specific information to the ski community.

You know what, I'm sad and angry.
Sad for Dalton first, as we all are at Salomon. Sad as everytimes something bad happens to one of the member of the ski community, because we are first and foremost skiers, who are going out to have fun, not to get hurt.
Then angry because we could do the same than all the companies involved in such cases are ... See Moredoing, whatever the type of businesses, I mean "no comment attitude". You know why they stay silent and don't communicate? Because after a few days, everything calm down. How many posts this week on TGR's forum and Lou's blog on Dalton's accident and the Quest Pros's insert?
I am very conscious that everytime we are talking or answering, we revive the fire and give more visibility to what happened. This is what every lawyer tells you. We know that, and this thread is the proof.
We have choosen another path which is to communicate... what we can communicate and we'll continue to do so. Because we think that it will serve the sport and the skiers, our reason of being.
Respectfully.

go to his Facebook page if you want the above posts to make sense.

crazy stuff.
any word from Salomon? Makes me want to look harder for boots that fit. theirs are my only choice these days.
-
05-10-2010, 01:48 PM #371This is such BS. Anyone with any background and competence in engineering should have the capacity to analyze the system and see that it's not capable of standing up to the forces skiing puts on it; anyone with any experience dealing with any sort of failures at all should have been able to know it was insufficient at first glance. We never stop working on the technical development of our products. We investigate the case, which unfortunately takes time because if there's an official standard (ISO 9523) for ski boots in use with alpine bindings, there are no standards related to the steel fittings in all terrain boots.

May be true for politicians or actors caught with their zippers down, but seems to totally misjudge culture around here. I read this and the other thread twice a day, am and pm, to keep track of what's going on. That I don't post regularly has nothing to do with my level of interest in whether Salomon does the right thing. (Listening, Salomon intern assigned to TGR?)
