    Black Moth Super Rainbow

CDLV more or less turned me onto these cats a couple of Mammoth Minis ago (or maybe it was last spring, i can't remember exactly). When I say "more or less" it's because he was spinning some of their sounds at Ft. FKNA, but i wasn't really checking it. Then i stumbled upon a solo album from one of the members, Tobacco (http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...hlight=tobacco), and was hooked. Totally worth checking out it you like the synth sounds that populated Air's Moon Safari, the soundtrack to vintage Doctor Who, and other neo-psychedelic moog enhanced tomfoolery.

i've actually been spinning Dandelion Gum for the past week and have yet to tire of it. good stuff.

    danke.

i'd toss in the synth sounds from Looper's first album, Up A Tree, as well.

it's funny because i got to talking music with the dude parked next to me in the Sugarbowl parking lot yesterday and when I played BMSR for him the first thing he said was "That sounds a lot like Air's Moon Safari" to which I added, "Yeah, but without the vocals."

I need to cop some of their other albums for sure, plus that new off-shoot, The Seven Fields of Aphelion.

    what's the verdict?

really ended up grinding Dandelion Gum to death on my most recent sojourn in Tahoe (2 weeks). That album is tits. Need to scoop up their earlier ones, I suspect.

spot-checked the Seven Fields of Aphelion on Amazon and was kinda non-plussed by it.

If y'all dig BMSR, might I suggest a group called Flowchart? Sorta similar, but not as dark.

Kinda cool that one version of their new album will be a latex "Halloween" mask with a USB flash drive as one of the teeth in the mask.

BMSR has a new album coming out? Awesome! I always figured I was the only one that got down with lo-fi around here.

BMSR's new album, Cobra Juicy, has taken a bit of time to grow on me. while not as readily immersive as their previous effort, Eating Us, the new joint has now been "stuck" in the cd player in my truck for 2 weeks straight.

I've never been much of a fan of Pitchfork (the site always felt like it was run by a bunch of pretentious high school bloggers with no journalistic experience), but I gotta say that I enjoyed this guy's review. It read like something I might have written back in the day when I was writing about music. My only "beef" with his review is that I would have scored the album a lot higher. It's a slow-burner that at first wasn't as immediate as their previous album, Eating Us, but after 2 weeks of constant spinning I think it might even be a stronger and more cohesive effort. I'd easily give Cobra Juicy somewhere between and 8.8 and a 9.3, maybe even a bit higher (then again I always hated rating albums, much preferring the review to speak for the greatness rather than the numerical offering and this guy's review sans the 7.6 speaks volumes of the album, imho):
