    chamois jong.

I've been wearing a pair of underwear with a taint pad built in that I used to use when I rode my dirtbike. I like them but they were kind of pricey and I figured I could find something more MTB oriented.

So I bought a pair of chamois shorts from pricepoint to wear under my dickies/board shorts when I ride.

They came today and they suck. I'm going to return them tomorrow.

So what the hell is everyone else wearing to give a little comfort to that spot between their balls and asshole?? I don't like the idea of shorts with a built in liner, too expensive IMO.

You get what you pay for. I wear real road biking shorts under some sort of other short. I don't remember what they cost, but they were worth every penny.

Try some of the Performance Bike brand stuff. Decent price and quality is fairly good, I've been riding one pair for 6 years and they are still kickin. They have a bunch of different stlye chamios at different pricepoints too.

2nd the Pearl Izumi shorts...it's like sitting on a air cushion. The chamois is mean to be the base layer -- in other words, free ball it. If you're scared someone's gonna see your junk poking through, get the ones that have a chamois & outer short.

3rd on PI. Have 2 pairs of their Slice road shorts. Now I think they're called Elite. Could ride all day with no problems. And yeah, you gotta freeball it.

    4th on PI.

I went through a lot of cheaper shorts that were "comfortable", but would only last a season. I dropped like $70 on a pair of slice shorts out of frustration and the quality and comfort difference is night and day.

yet another PI vote. I run their Microsensor PRO bibs, have been for years, long ride comfort. Gotta freeball it dude. I know the OP didn't want to go the sewn in route, but I picked up a pair of Endura Burner xc style baggies last fall to mix it up a bit. Boy, that is a nice baggie short. Not cheap, but well worth the money if you can find a sale.

X2 on this. The regular "Century" shorts (not the ones with gel padding, just regular padding) are pretty nice for $35-40. They go on sale a lot.

    Get these...

    http://www.pearlizumi.com/product.ph...366616&outlet=

They're $30 and are designed to be worn under other clothes. As a result, they're made out of thin mesh instead of the heavier, thicker material of a traditional riding short. So they'll breathe better under clothes. I crash a lot and have yet to rip a pair either; so don't worry, they're bomber. Oh and they're super comfy.

+1 for Performance under boardshorts, works great and isnt too pricy.

That or just spring for a good pair of bike shorts with a built in chamois, I got some Sugoi's off Chainlove that I thought would suck but they're fkn awesome

I've never found a pair of baggies that had good liners.
Wear quality road lycra under your baggies.

Assos are awesome, like angels are cradling your boys, but very pricey.
Castelli is close second and slightly less pricey.
PI is very good and less pricey still.
Performance are decent on the cheap.

I've got a pair of Oakleys that I don't like that much. The zippers on the pockets are pretty wimpy. Both of mine are now stuck in place (happened after about 2 months of usage).

Hoss Stallion. Just picked up a pair of these and they have a removable liner that makes Fox's liners look terrible. They fit well due to numerous adjustments, a drawstring w/ zipper and 2 side velco straps. At 6' 5" the Stallions are long enough unlike most bike shorts but fit good for trail riding. Not too spendy either.

    Cool.
Added bonus points for being able to say, "That's my Stallion, Hoss", if anyone asks about your shorts.

In case there was any doubt surrounding my Pearl Izumi recommendation, I refer you to their latest bit of marketing:

If there's any remaining doubt about the quality of Pearl Izumi products (or their marketing department), lick uranus.

Fit is such a personal thing that it's hard to recommend one brand over another other than for quality or price.

I've tried a lot of brands, but the ancient Bellwether shorts I have fit me better than any other. Bonus: They're cheap. Don't be afraid to try on a few brands and styles before finding what works for you and you alone.

I have a pair of high end sugoi... they were mega pricey. But theyve lasted 5 years now. theyre totally awesome. Dont bother with integrated, removable, etc etc. Get good road stuff, put on a pair of baggies over top and robert's-your-mothers-brother.
