    'Most Laps' super-D-ish race format...

So, If I could get this type of race going at Targhee this summer, would any of you be interested in coming out to check it out?

    The idea:

There are three different DH trails at Targhee. My idea is to hold a 'most laps' in x amount of time format. Simple, right? I figure passing allowed, only competitors on two trails (one open for other riders).

    Free Beer.

    Prizes could go deep.

    Thoughts?

Are there categories for congeniality, swimsuit or question/answer?

We could have handicaps for bike size.

Count me in. Just be aware of scheduling conflicts with other races... Wild Rockies, Utah DH Series, MSC, etc.

Don’t race. Leave that to the scorchers.

P.S. One thing I really liked about the Super D at Brundage last year was the "line option." i.e., have a road gap or other jump shortcut something and have an alternate "on the ground" route... basically risk/reward and level the playing field between the hardtail 29ers and the people riding bigger bikes.

Yeah, we are already running into a conflict for our 24 Hr race, Troy is thinking of running it the same weekend as Leadville, just because so many people don't make the lottery.

As to conflict with WC or whatever, I would want to start this one fairly small in order to iron out the kinks with less pressure. The soil is usually best ~late July, so that is a factor as well. The base is 8000ft, so mid-late July is usually quite pleasant for the hotter climate folks.

I just thought of this a few minutes ago, so any suggestions are welcome. I am thinking more of a fun format than a full blown warrior testosterone fest, kind of a 'come check out our scene' thing, with prizes.

    And beer.

    Beer per lap category.

I liked the alternate line vs bike category like Particle said. I think the jump at Brundage shaved about 20 seconds...maybe more off the ride around. They were saying you probably needed a DH bike to do it but it turned out a decent AM could handle it.

Mid July is awesome. Pomerelle Pounder is the first weekend in Aug.

Oh, and since were suggesting and building wish lists, how about a kick ass band after the race. And beer. I won't even bitch about the weather.

FS land, so probably no gaps. (The fact that they finally let us build AT ALL is a fucking minor miracle)
BUT Targhee is no faster on a 29"-er, there is zero-zilch climbing or smooth sections. (Except for Mill Creek, which would be a MANDATORY finish (post event) run...4000 ft descent from 10k-~6K)

We could also do a fun Shuttle day on the Pass the next day for you huck-monkeys.

Looks like Angelfire has an 'extreemo' version, I am thinking of something a little less...intense. (or More Fun)

Dude, a chill grassroots event, checking out new Targhee trails, plus beer, plus some time built in for pass shuttles = win. Big win.

I am sure I could get FAT lodging discounts right on the hill, think ~$20 a person per night. As well as other major discounts around town.

I think it sounds awesome, but why would there by two trails? Would you be requiring that racers alternate between the two trails? If so, I think that'd be awesome. Especially if one of the trails was super rocky and nasty, while the other one was (relatively) smooth - it'd give the knuckles a break.

How would you do the start - would there still be set intervals (i.e. one rider leaving the gate ever 20-30 seconds)? For races where its kind of a free-for-all (no set intervals that people are starting at), hairy sections / gaps / jumps / anyplace people might crash tend to bottle neck. They might bottle neck even if you are running intervals because you'll probably end up with widely differing skill sets descending the same trail at the same time. Aside from making the course more fun, alternate lines might also be a good way of alleviating the clusters of people that will inevitably happen in hairy spots.

How about instead of a super-D, you just go with a DH. So no one has to ride uphill? Just a thought...

If it's any of the middle three weekends of July I'll pre-register now.

I think you answered your own question. Strategy can be a part of picking the right line, even if one is sometimes faster. I am also thinking limited registration to ~50 people.

    Keep throwing out thoughts!

But what bike will the Reverend bring?

I will pitch this to the brass early next week, I think we already have momentum.

Anyone out there have any products/services they might like to promote at this?
    BC/Tramdock peeps?

There is no uphill, I am referring more to technical skill. Targhee lift served trails are rocky and bumpy, all DH. (There is also a lot of great other XC singletrack, of course!)

I wouldn't mind offering a XC tour of the Big Hole's in here as well.

    Paging Jimmy Page...
Can you help me promote this in SV?

(Needless to say I will be calling Scott and Smith for prizes, etc...)
