    Testing:
Can any of you tell me if this works as an immediate link for you?
Works for me, but I have google maps installed, and location services on.
It should be a google earth map with the course on it....

If any of you mapping super nerds could do some layers that superimpose the trail, topo info, and finally the google earth photo, that would be ultra dope, mmmmk?

Isn't that what Marin should be doing as a salaried employee, anyway? (I keeed! Sorta)

    Or Lien?

Now if upper sticks and stones could just connect in with the old lightning ridge goat path without needing to pedal up the fire road....heaven

Depends upon how many participants there are. You cannot legally organize pass shuttles in exchange for compensation or as part of an organized event without a permit, so it will be organic. That said, there is a pass shuttle every few minutes if you are holding out a PBR tall boy! (seriously, I have never had to hitch long for a ride)

So I'm planning on coming up for the Super D race. It will be my first race and I've got a couple questions. I'm coming from Salt Lake and realistically I don't think I'll be able to get into town soon enough Saturday to do a practice run.

Is it feasible to ride any portion of the course before the race?
I see the lifts don't normally start running until 10am normally. Since the race starts at 10, any idea when the lift will be running Sunday?
Is it crazy to do the race without seeing or riding any of the course?

    1. You could ride from the base area to lightning ridge and ride some of the middle section, or lower sticks and stones. You could also ride to the top and then ride the whole course, but that might make you pretty tired.

    2. Good question.

    3. Crazy is a very relative term. I would say no, but certainly you'd go faster with a practice run or two.

Nice, I did the Mountain Pulse Google Earth work.
And...I think I'll reserve judgment on the racecourse until after I race it. I'm a little surprised about the Powder Reserves climb/Sticks and Stones loop. When racing DH two years ago I was redlined sprinting DOWN the fireroad, hopefully I won't loose my cookies sprinting UP it.

What kind of bike? 650b 150mm 66 HTA, under 27 lbs. Or whatever you're on with some mean quads and healthy lungs...

Is there going to be a place to register for the race-only tmrw? We may be calling an audible and heading down that way for the weekend.

Dang. That was a cool overview. Got me even more fired up.

If we show up tmrw, we may not have time to pre-ride. Any spots to be aware of? Weird drops? Or pretty much just heads up riding and flash-able.

Buffalo drop will save you GOBS of time, but it is a Med-Large drop. Depends on your big, nasty blind drop tolerance, I guess.

How big of a drop are we talking about here?

    This course looks amazing.

It also meets all of the old school Super D (not to be confused with an Enduro) criteria, ie: it's a point to point race where the finishing elevation is lower than the starting elevation, there's way more descending than climbing, the mileage is there, and the clock never stops.

I'm genuinely bummed I'm missing this one, but I have a feeling it may become a classic so hopefully I'll have another opportunity in the future.

Again, I'm reserving judgement for after the race...but I think there are several spots where I may void my stomach all over myself.
Also, regarding Buffalo Drop, I'd wager that the 5-8 seconds lost by not sending the drop could potentially be made during the rest of this 30+ minute race.
Also, congrats to JeffreyJim for placing 4th overall in the Targhee High Climb today. First under 30, possibly first overall with hair on legs...but I wasn't there for calf inspection.

You are definitely correct, SJ. I guess my thoughts on it come from the more traditional DH times, which just end at the base. Good luck, see y'all up there today!

Ha. Thanks. I can assure those who question I was the first hairy legged finisher, first (only?) guy with a visor on his helmet to finish (lots of TT helmets!) and first on a 20+lbs bike to finish. So that's a win right?

Mountain bike race yesterday was very cool. Quiet the effort but I dig the downs. As a side note, anyone considering pedaling a bike with a bent chainguide and his/her chain off the lower derailleur pulley (sandwiched between the pulley and the metal) had better be a type A masochist. I've never felt so much drag in a drivetrain. Ever. Holy moly was that an effort. (bad timing too...blew it all up RIGHT at the start of the first climb)

Congrats to SJ for his 2nd place finish and Baby Bear for her 5th place pro women's finish. I give them the award for "fastest couple" and "fastest household". Well done!!!

I would like to know if SJ actually puked to achieve that 2nd place

Nice weekend, and great trails. Super fun just to get to ride something new and rad. I loved the Targhee descent, and that section of Sticks N Stones was a blast with all the little senders. Really cool mix of trails. JJ sorry I missed saying what's up, I think Andrew pointed you out at point across the parking lot but I must've got distracted.

I had to leave early, still no idea how I finished But I started 5th and was first to finish, 1-minute intervals, always makes you feel pretty good to tick people off in front. Although I think having some more rabbits to chase up the climb might've helped me push myself a bit harder. Found my mind wandering up on Lightning Ridge all alone, knowing no one was in front of me and no one in sight behind...

I don't have many details yet, but the feedback from different racers is being absorbed, for sure. (this was the first one, after all). Things I have heard are some more Dh luv, like a little gravity fest to close out the summer season in september, which may include a chainless race, some bigger air options, all sorts of suggestions are being mulled over.
Glad to see all of you out! I think I was parked near you guys in the blue Ford pick up, I heard you talking about your chain guide malfunction with a red beard dude.
I'll post more as soon as I can!

Ahh! That was me. Chainguide/derailleur malfunction.

    My $0.02:

Take a look at the winter park (trestle) and Aspen (snowmass master of the mass). While it doesn't need to be multi day, doing different "stages" seems best in my opinion. Have a chainless stage, a stage with a bit of pedaling and then something with a bit of tech makes the most sense to me.... Best overall time wins.

I need to be clear that this isn't my gig, but I do have the organizers' ear, and he knows I am pretty active with all of this kind of media and feedback.
Love to hear more suggestions, for sure. To me, it would be perfect if different people had the possibility of winning different stages based on specific skillets, with points going towards the overall.
Hey, what about those swell first place trophies, eh, kids? (heh)

Understandable! I'd be more than happy to provide input to the powers that be. I'd be stoked if my 11 years of being around the 'race scene' in just about every different facet of cycling could go toward something!
