Shoot, this is the same w/e as the Trestle Enduro in Winter Park so Andrew and I will be there and are sad to miss this.
Looks like the w/e will be a lot of fun though. Nice work putting it together!

Thanks, Bear, it is a huge collaborative effort to do this.
Shame you guys won't make it, I think SkiJ would have swept it clean...

Trestle is my priority as well, being one of the main races I want to do this year. But Targhee is about half as far away, so if time gets tight I might have to divert to Idaho.

Just to be clear, this entire event is a non-prof fundraiser for Teton Valley Trails And Pathways. All profits go towards advocacy and trail endeavors. Anyhoo, $35.00 is as cheap as it can get for everything that is included, I would say it is the best value for a festival/race in the country.
Check out all the perks, it is pretty ridiculous.

Just got this elevation fall/gain profile of the Super D course.
    It's excellent. And infinitely lappable.

(let me know if that works)

Thanks dub, might have to take you up on that. Looking harder and harder to get away for an extended weekend for Trestle, and Targhee is looking more and more doable.

edit: holy balls that is a lot of climbing. Ehhhh...

I will relay that sentiment tonight at our planning meeting, it is possible to knock off most of that climb (but I don't make that decision). The more feedback from ANY AND ALL of y'all could help change that, but Andy would have to see a good amount of commentary.

As far as lapping it all day/any day, you can do it with just a few hundred yards of climbing, FWIW.

Unofficial Teton Pass time trials over the weekend, OTOH...

yeah... that is way too much climbing for my tastes for a Super D. Shouldn't be more than 10% climbing, and personally I'm not down with courses with more than a few short bursty ups. Anything more sustained than that and it's just a point-to-point XC race, IMO.

Please folks, chime in. The race director WILL be reading this post. Thanks, Particle.
Maybe a 'Baggy' open category could address this?

Just to clarify: Super Ds are inherently pedally and reward fitness. You're HAMMERING the pedals on flats, on downhills, it is an intense workout. But they should have tech too, the problem is when they have really sustained ups it completely removes the bike handling element from the race; you just can't make up that kind of time against a true XC racer with that level of fitness on a 20-lb carbon hardtail 29er. k, I'm done

I would vote to keep the course as posted.

It is my opinion that you should not be able to be competitive in a super d using flat pedals. You think Adam Craig and Jerome Clementz are winning enduro/super d events on flats?

If you want to race on a course that only has 10% climbing, I think you should be looking at some dh races because some of them have just about that much.

Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions...

Edit: my bad Particle. When you said "hammering on flats" I wrongly assumed you meant flat pedals. After re reading I see you meant flat Terrain.

Just to add- I am consistantly blown away by how well some pro class xc guys descend the few times I ride with such people each summer. Guys like Alex Grant and Bart Gillespie descend just as fast on their Scalpel's with 71° head angles as many of my friends who ride full blown dh/fr bikes. There's a reason those guys are pros - they're no one trick ponies.

What do pedals have to do with anything? I crush XC on my flats and race DH on clipless. So?

Agreed on the huge skillset pros have, watched Adam Craig and company blasting downhill at nationals last year was ridiculous.

edit: just saw your edit, all good!

rideit - no changes since the last profile, looks like 3.5mi total climbing, but broken up and no more than 1 mile per climb, is that correct?

particle, i might be into rallying with you for a full on 1 day mission...

To be honest, I have not been involved in the course at all, I have been working on XC trail in Victor pretty much full on. Gonna be a bench of great new tread, though, even if the course is a tad pedally. Check out Targhees FB page, there should be some great pics of new projects. Don't forget that there are three other DH trails to lap besides the 'Super D' trail (mill creek v.2.0)

Cool, I don't mind some pedaling here and there. After all, I just did the Ely race and pedaled my ass up 3800' vert.

rideit, is there anything technical on the descents? Like where I might make up a little ground on some more XC-oriented riders?

marshal - sounds intriguing, let's stay in touch as it gets closer.

Yeas, there is definitely some chunder, for sure. I *think* there might be some larger jumps that the weenies will lose time going around, but I am not totally sure.

Looks like I am officially in for this one. In-laws are going to join us so I think we'll just find a cabin on VRBO or something. Stoked for this! I will bring the DH bike too in hopes of sneaking in a few pass laps.

Just read this FB post from Scott Fitzgerald, local shop owner, and one of the most rounded cyclists in either valley regarding the Super D course...

I rode the Super-D course on Sunday and all I can say is... HOOOOOLEE! This is going to be nothing short of epic. I "thought I had my bike choice all figured out but now I'm back to scratching my head. 29er or 26? How wide a tire? 2 Ply DH casing? Goggles? Flat pedals or clipless? I had never ridden Sticks and Stones on a cross country bike and let me just, it is different than being on the DH bike! So psyched for this race! What are you gonna ride?"

Heh, nice! Good to hear there will be a good mix of trails.

Thanks for checking on cabins, 4 adults plus baby plus dog... Mid swank. Stoked to ride with ya again.
