Thread: Thoughts on Alpine Trekkers

I'm thinking of going with the Trekkers over Duke setup, help me out, which way would you go.

Wow, I can't believe it. You're the first person that has ever asked this question, ever in the history of this forum. I can't believe someone could have such an original thought 3 years after the duke was released. No one else has ever wondered whether they should use dukes or trekkers and asked for others opinions on the issue.

I think that trekking in an alpine environment is just fine and I don't mind other people doing it.

Cmon midwest, thats not what he's asking at all.

I think the trekkers are a neat idea, but I dont see why you would want to switch between telemark and downhill on one ski. Plus, who wants to tele in downhill boots? Its just not the same.

If you ask me, save your money and just buy a downhill setup and a tele setup.

I'll take pity since you're from NH.

It depends on how much touring you do. If you're going to do some light slackcountry a few times a season get the trekkers. If you're going to do more than that, get the Dukes.

There is so much, good, quality information, that other mags have taken the time to type, debate, and explain, and we don't need people who joined last month because they have a question about skiing clogging up tech talk because they're too lazy to find the information themselves. The question you asked has been asked/discussed at least 20 times, and that's a low estimate. I bet if you took the time to search you would find several threads that detail the weight of the duke vs trekkers + several alpine bindings. As well as threads that discuss the various advantages and disadvantages of trekkers.

Achtung's response is the general sentiment around these parts. A few times a year = trekkers. More than that, or more than just slackcountry, go dukes. If you searched though, you would have found that out.

If a tgr forums search seems like too much work, you'll probably find touring really hard, and you might want to go dynafit.

trekkers suck!!! heavy, loose; no sidehill control, and bulky.

why anyone would want to carry skins and trekkers in their bag on the way down i have no idea, the duke serves a great purpose for both alpine and touring settings.
