TR: Jan 30th - A few hours in the Alaska Range

AK47 and I spent Saturday enjoying the high-pressure and above-zero temps in the eastern Alaska Range. With the snowpack a bit thin, we kept rock under us for most of the day and didn't roll the dice with the weak bridging that most of the lower elevation glaciers had. Daylight is still in short-supply, but the long, sunrise/sunsets are tough to beat this time of year.

After getting a couple late-day runs in, we waited a half-hour or so on top of the ridge in the dark while the moon rose. After turning our headlamps off we skied our last run under a full moon back to the valley floor. (sorry, no pics of the last run) All in all, it was a great day cruising around in the hills with the Papa-Muntz-moonshine-run being the icing on the cake.

I had the only camera, so we didn't end up with too many action shots. Sunsets, skin-tracks and the bearded AK47 are the stars of this TR. Enjoy.

That was amazing. Your pictures capture some serious beauty and what looked like killer skiing. Thanks!

    Excellent pics!

I love how all the TRs I've read from AK say "we have no snow this year". All the pics look great, and we really DO have no snow here in Colorado.

I'm trying to put together a trip up there for March, is the snow really that bad?

    How is stability?

I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.

That is well done. The shot of the traverse over the cornice across the ridge looks sketchy from the picture.
