Still a pretty short article, but more info.

(10-20) 16:47 PDT YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) --

Two Japanese climbers were found dead Wednesday in Yosemite National Park, dangling from a 3,200-foot sheer climbing face in a snowstorm.

Rescuers began search efforts Tuesday after seeing the stranded party on El Capitan, a sheer climbing face that climbs out of Yosemite Valley. The couple was not moving at the time.

Heavy snow and winds initially made searching with a helicopter impossible so a rescue team began an 11-mile hike in driving snow and extreme wind.

A break in the weather Wednesday allowed the helicopter to fly close to the party and rescuers determined that the two climbers were dead, according to the Yosemite National Park rangers.

Worthy of a Darwin Award...hopefully others will look at the weather forecast first.

Wow, nearly 20 years to the day that a couple of Japanese climbers were killed on the same route during a huge October storm. RIP

NPS and YOSAR plucked 3 people (still alive) off the captain and another party tomorrow. Those guys kick ass.

Not the place I'd like to be during a huge Pacific storm.

Reminds me of Krakauer's writing about some mountain in Europe in Eiger Dreams...might even be the Eiger, doh!

The ice encased body of a climber who had died while climbing in winter would hang freely after the ice melted in the summer.

my roommate was just up there last 2 days/nights trying to get to these dudes...found them basically frozen to the granite, dead....he is with marin s&r, and was called out as part of the high angle rescue crew...crazy.

still something like 10 people missing that were backpacking in YNP, SNP, etc...you might think they would have checked the weather before heading out...
