How do I remove hair that is rubbing my ear drum?

Gawd, it's driving me crazy. It's a constant sound of crushed leaves. I can hear fine, no pain. I've tried q-tips (usually works to remove loose hair), saline (both drops & pressure), ear wax remover, peroxide. Damn, nothing will release the offending object. I'm about to stick an ice pick in my ear just to make the noise go away.

Can I get rid of this w/o seeing a doc?

    ^^^ something like that.

Seriously, it's been an on and off again issue. Years ago, during a routine physical, my GP showed me these tiny hairs in my ear canal. He pulled them with a qtip and it solved the problem. Usually the qtip thing does the job, but not this time. These things are so deep. Aaarrggghhh.

I broke down and made an appt with an ear doc. I can't stand this noise.

    ohhh, finally, sweet relief.

I just got back from the ear doc. Sure enough, I had a bunch of hair rubbing my ear drum. He had to pick them out one at a time. SHIT that hurt. I thought he was trying to poke my brain and remove some cells. He stopped when tears were rolling out of my eyes.

Then he dropped cold water and vacuumed it out in a failed attempt to get the last few out. HOLY SHIT the entire room started spinning like crazy. Worse head spin I ever had. I wanted to sit up and make it stop, but he wouldn't let me. I'm still disoriented 30min later.

He checked the other ear and pulled out a wad of hair that looked like a tiny down feather. He was surprised I didn't complain about that since it was resting on the ear drum. The cleaning of this ear was so much more pleasant. Apparently I have abnormally long ear canal hair. (who knew that irul got it right?) He expects to see me again for future cleaning.

The only preventative/self cleaning he offered was dropping diluted vinegar and to stop using qtips. He obviously wants me back.
