WTB: Book: Shibumi by Alex Trevanian
Probably, one of the best books of all-time. Caving/espionage/intrigue related.
Gave my copy to a friend. Now, I need a new (or read) one. Can't find it anywhere."My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police." Of course, I did, Hugh. Everytime I click checkout, Trevanian's other books (eg. Eiger Sanction, The Summer of Katya, The Main) come up, but no Shibumi.
I love the condescension of some on the board. You can always tell who.
L7: That why I need the book...to get in touch with it."My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police." I liked Shibumi a lot, but it was a bit far fetched at times. The whole tenth level sex master thing reminded me of Sting bragging about how power yoga made him a sex machine...ewwwww. That aside, it's a damn fine book.
"Incident at Twenty-Mile" however was fucking awesome. Do yourself a favor and read it.
As for Shibumi, word on the street has it that a movie is in the works. I've actually held a script for it in my hands. We'll see..."I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."
