Question Have you ever seen a working foot pedal trash can?

Why is it that whenever I encounter one of those foot pedal trash cans, it's fucking broken? You hit the pedal with your foot, and the trash cover kind of wobbles a little bit, but it never fully opens. So you open the thing with your hand, and it ends up covered in nasty ass trash juice.

What's the story here? We can put a man on the moon, but we can't build a durable trash can that you can open with your foot? Where is the technology gap? And why do people continue to buy these shitty trash cans if they know they're gonna break in six months? Am I alone in this?

Hint: they are not bought by people who are concerned with function.

also a convert to buying more $$$ trash cans...

got 2 of these simplehuman ones after having them in an office - better than the hinged lid I think.

they're large, and pretty doggy proof!

    About the Touchless Trashcan
The 13-gallon, brushed stainless steel Touchless Trashcan is a patented product that's already widely recognized in Europe. Thousands have been sold on infomercials, QVC, and HSN home shopping channels. It also won the 2002 Invention Show, New Household Product Award. It is a 100 percent hands-free operated, wireless, lidded waste disposal system. The built-in Artificial Intelligent (AI) Smart-Chip knows when you need to open trash can, and it does all the openings and closings for you so you don't have to touch or step on anything.

    How it Works
The Touchless Trashcan uses patented, invisible, and harmless infrared technology. Simply place your hand or debris about six inches away from the infrared sensor near the lid. It will open instantly when you approach and will close automatically in three seconds after debris has been released and your hand moves away. The lid will remain open if debris or your hand is within the 6-inch range of the infrared sensor. There are two buttons on the front to open and close the lid manually, and a easy to reach on/off switch on the back of the trashcan.

Got a round, stainless SimpleHuman with the foot pedal. We've had it for 3+ years (and 3 different houses), and have only had to tighten a loose screw.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I don't like them, but they are a necessity with two small children who like to investigate. We've had our for 2 years and even with the kids playing with the pedal, it works flawlessly.
