    Volkl back in Germany?

heard from a guy who visited the Volkl factory that Volkl is producing 400'000 pairs back in their big german factory.

Does anyone know why they left the chinese-K2 factory? or is it just the carving-production which is back in germany?
(but they guy told me, that he saw freeride-models, too).

Grizzly, AC50 = made in Germany

Gotama, and I'm pretty sure Katana and Mantra = made in China

Not 100% sure, but Katana and Gotama are made in China. It wouldn't really make sense to manufacture those in China and Mantra in Germany.

^^^^ Volkl never left. My 08-09 Mantras say, "Made in Germany," as do all those carvers that euros and rental shops love. Hard to fathom, but Volkl's U.S. sales of fat skis may not be the most pressing thing on their minds...

    Earth >>>>>> Uranus.

Skis made in China are no less or more prone to defect due to manufacturing tolerance then they are made in Germany.

Ski design, specification, materials, layup, etc is specified by product managers and engineers. Specifications/bill of materials come from the same place and are administered to the manufacturing plants.

You may like the idea that a pair of skis came from one place better then another, however the fact is, it doesn't mater. The reality is however that it's a romantic notion based on perception.

The economics of domestic production of a domestically sold product may play a role as well. Shipping, duties, time to market, etc. The US is an import market for them no matter where the skis originate.

I know everything....keep believing the farce that china makes as good of products as other countries. I mean they make great pet food, baby formula, and drywall....so why wouldn't their skis be just as good? Purchase all the chinese crap you want at walmart etc, I'll prefer to purchase higher quality items.

    Jebuz d00d CTFO.
Talk about comparing grapes with water melons.
Now you are making generalizations that just make you look dumb.
It's just laughable (not the lead in baby food part, toys, etc. that's just wrong, should never happen, from any country).

Some guy came into the shop today irate about the chinese volkls, but still stoked on the german stuff. If you dont want to support china, dont buy volkl. Even if you buy a german ski, you are still paying into a company that is made in china.

There are plenty of in country brands now that are making a solid product (maybe even better than volkl considering the warranty rates last year). Do yourself and your checkbook (euro exchange=^^^^$$$) and buy from ON3P, Moment, PMGear, etc.

    Whatever.
And thanks for proving my point.
    You know everything.
Short memory on my behalf, my bad.

This is a thread in tech talk, discussing where skis are manufactured.
Skis. Not baby formula, toys, etc.

If you want to discuss trade imbalance, human rights issues, bad substances finding their way into the manufacturing of products, start a thread in the padded room. In reality we don't really have an argument about that topic in general. I personally shun Walmart and cheaply made goods that come from overseas manufacturing whenever it makes sense. I prefer to purchase locally grown and or produced goods as often as possible supporting the local economy, that's a choice I make.

As Single mentions, if you don't like that a company sends some of it's production to China, then don't buy their products. Regarding the conversation of warranty, what's important is how the company stands behind their product, in my experience Volkl steps up and stands behind their product. PM gear had it's fare share of warranties as well, and Pat stepped up. Too soon to tell for Scott and ON3P, though I'm pulling for them and hope things work out well.

Idunno. I love the taste of most most spring rolls that I have purchased in Germany.
