Hola I'm doubting you will want to put dukes on this ski when you get it in the mail. I'm a good friend of the ski builder have been skiing on Praxis since the first prototypes. I've witnessed the creation of this ski and I find it hard to believe you want to tour on this ski! This is an enormous ski with a 165mm shovel. To each his own, but I would seriously reconsider using the 186 powder boards at the most, unless you have the legs of a mountain goat, and the balls of an elephant.

In the formula above I'm a little forward for both my 187 mtn. freerides and my 195 pows. I'm at 101 and 104 respectively. If I had to guess, I would say 105/6 would be the sweet spot for the protests at 196...FWIW I love the pows at 104 but am going to remount my freerides back a bit...

196 Protest in the house.
Look sick, Keith has really got it dialed for 2010.

It's sound if you want the same relative mounting point as the 188s. Same ratio of tip and tail and all that.
Personally I think the back of all Keith's ranges is where you want to be.
I went 2cm outside of his range for my mtn jibs after trying them first at the back end of his recommendation.
My 188 protests are mounted at 100. If I had it to do over again I'd try 101 but I'm certainly not complaining about where they are.
I used the same formula after figuring out my 188 mtn jibs when mounting a pair of 183s for bc use. It definitely put me in the right spot.STRAVA: Enabling dorks everywhere to get trails shut down........ all for the sake of a race on the internet.

Yeah, that's what Keith said too. I have never skinned so I don't have a clue. My thought was to use them for in-bound and side-country skiing and gear them to skin up a little if I was with a group who wanted to. But realistically how often does anybody do that? There's probably more boot up than skin up when you're skiing side-country, yes? I can only afford a one quiver setup right now so maybe I need to get out of my active imagination and back to reality.
Now, boots ...

Its too bad Keith doesnt feel comfortable to come back here and face a shitshow.
Hopefully this years production is right on schedule and he can come back to chine in and offer advice without fearing someone yells at him to quit playing on the computer and get back to work on the ski press.
I love all my Praxis, even the ones I got rid o since they did not fit my quiver.
Keith builds a great ski.
I dont' know him other than to know his product and to exchange a few emails.
Glad he kept the Backcountry in the lineup. I think that is the uber-versatile ski for any and all conditions.
It isn't loose enough to slarve like a banana, but it can slarve a little and can handle damn near anything.
Plus its waist is very reasonable for skinning and touring."Fakers are Maggots" - T. Hall, 2011

BOOOOYAH!!!!!
Background on Praxis Experience: Unlike everyone last year, I had really no problems this year. About a month ago, I pinged Keith and talked to him about picking up a pair of Protests and Backcountrys for my inbounds quiver. We spoke for a while, and then I told him I was going to stop by the shop.
Went to the shop when he was pressing the 188 Protests. The whole process was cool and we talked about the Protests and Backcountrys. Hopefully he will take my advice on using the topo graphic for the Backcountrys this year!
Anyway, pulled the trigger on the 196 and that was that. I am hurt right now so I really didn't follow-up or anything. Not time sensitive for me. Arrived on Friday..... BC's to come in December.
Initial Impressions: Build quality is top-notch. Seriously haven't felt a ski feel this bomber out of the box! More importantly, the structuring on the bases is incredible. By partnering up with Start Haus this year, well..... that is a HUGE development. I tried to get a picture of the structuring, but couldn't really come out.
On to the Pics:

Entire back:

Poor attempt to show base structuring:

Tail rocker:

Entire Rocker (note: this picture doesn't really do it justice..... Rocker is HUGE and the "Camber" in the middle is ever so slight - just a touch).

196 Protest against 188 Megawatt (note: I wish I had a scale, cause honestly the Protests feel as light if not lighter than the Megawatts)

196 Protest against 188 Megawatt:

196 Protest rocker against 188 Megawatt rocker:

UCL's 2009-2010 Quiver:
Inbounds:
196 Praxis Protest w/ Marker Duke w/ Garmont Endorphin - pow
190 Praxis Backcountry w/ Marker Duke w/ Garmont Endorphin - daily driver
Touring:
188 Black Diamond Megawatt w/ Dynafit Vertical FT-12 w/ Garmont Radium - pow
180 Black Diamond Verdict w/ Dynafit Vertical ST w/ Garmont Radium - daily driver, spring
PUMPED!!! Now if I can only get this knee to get better....

Thanks for posting the pics. ^^^^^ I am stoked for you. The base structure is visible in the first shot of the base and looks $$$$$$.
With the Protests shipping the Powder Boards cannot be far off.

"Hopefully he will take my advice on using the topo graphic for the Backcountrys this year!"
Caveman: I have the topo top sheet on my BCs! Keith did if for me last year. It looks really good. I didn't get out on them much last year because my season ended. I'll put a pic up when I'm back in Utah in a couple weeks.

I have Rx Powder, Powder, and Mtn Freerides. I love 'em all.
The Mtn Freeride is a bit short for me at 187cm but it's playful and versatile. It was so much fun last spring and yesterday at Squaw.
I hope Keith pulls out of his slump. Unfortunately, he is not getting any PR. This weekend a big article in the Reno Gazette newspaper mentioned local ski companies and how riders are buying them for the quality, to support the infrastructure, the romance. The article mentioned PM Gear, Moment, and a snowboard company but not Praxis.
This little guy was loving the reverse reverse of my Praxis Powder in my garage this summer:

Hey Jim, I'm not sure if I've asked you before, probably in the last thread but where are your Mtn Freerides mounted?
