true. bad form is bad form.
and there are plenty of older people i would prefer to not deal with. but in general, if i see someone has been around a bit, contributes positive things, and seems to have good feedback, then all other things being equal (pm's 5 minutes apart or something), i would rather sell to them than someone i never heard of. but absolutely, i would try to communicate that the item was spoken for etc.

What's up with the OP's sense of entitlement? If I'm selling something I'll absolutely sell it to a long-time poster over someone who joined last month. Especially if it's a high dollar item. And as a buyer I'd fully understand that the seller can sell to whoever they want. Especially if someone else can do a face-to-face cash deal, how can you even bitch about that?

^^^^^
Seems like we are seeing that a lot lately. This entitlement idea.
Like that little shit from Ogden UT this week that was selling 2 pair of Benchetler. He obviously proformed them and straight up said "I'm entitled to do what ever the fuck I want".
Well, no you're not. Not here.

If it makes you feel better, I replied as soon as the add dropped for local pick up. Because the guy wanted high ship rates, he Mary's on my PM.
I figured it out, if they want to ship, they are trashed.
He did tell us this though, so not raggin' at least he didn't try to keep em local
Props to me for dropping out on a sale I wasn't even considered on.

Oh and I just wanted to add. About a 2 weeks ago I got dibs on a pair of spats from GrizzlyFD. I offered him $200. I had first dibs but didn't have all the cash right then.
He was up front with me and honest. He told me he had a guy with $250 behind me with the cash ready to go but since I had met his offer first he would honor it.
I ended up telling him to make the extra 50 bucks but I thought it was very cool of him to do that. I know I'll get mine eventually.
It was cool because he didn't have to do that. He could have just told me to f-off.Last edited by TheDon; 11-12-2009 at 10:54 AM.

word. this kind of stuff seems to sort itself out around here... I do agree that "dibs, pm sent" means a little more here than on ebay or wherever, but for the most part good sellers = good buyers here, and that is what is really cool. I've sent things out before payment, and I've been shipped things as payment was being worked out - in all cases dealing with "established" mags (whatever that means). Like many wiser than I have said, stick around, do unto others, and life will be good.
I do sort of agree with the idea of making sure to post in the thread when PM'ing, even if it is after the fact. It sucks to get excited about being first to call dibs in a thread, then told that somebody pm'd 30 min. ago, I've def. been there, but again, whatevs. - it all works out eventually!

I usually only wait 12 hours or so. Hasn't hurt me too badly yet. I don't necessarily disagree with the more stringent application of these principles. In a case where say, I saw something I wanted, called dibs and had to be away from my computer for a couple of hours, I would certainly appreciate the seller at least giving me reasonable amount of time to pay up.
Seems like if people actually did what they said they'd do we wouldn't be having this discussion. Kinda too bad on that level.

This is a stupid thread
Are your forgetting the free salmon binders you got minutes before me for free???? People were telling you to "back off" but what was the outcome? you got a free pair of solid binders..... Have you given anything back to the community since this?
This is a case by case situation and sellers can do what ever they please even if others disagree. Personally I think I deserved them more than you, but what the fuck does that mean?
Answer: Jack shit. Its an internet forum most of us will never meet each other in person so its up to ourselves to govern ourselves. If someone gets a rep of being a dipshit seller that will come back in the end. Then again if someone is a dipshit seller but offers great deals there will always be a demand for what they're selling.a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Dibs works smetimes and sometimes it doesn't. Items will always show up more than once so if you miss out chill the fuck out wether you called dibs or not you'll get what you want eventually

Fair is fair
As long as we are going to clean up this apparent shit show of a gear swap, i would like to add another suggestion. Often times i am disappointed when i get around to checking the forums only to find that i missed out on a great deal or something that i had been looking for. This is a serious problem for me, i did not even have a chance to call dibs. For a fair dibs to work we need to implement official open trading hours so we know that all dibs may be accounted for, as this will clog the system we can split seller days up by join date or post counts...
I cant continue this ridiculousness... i have given and recieved some great deals, i have missed out on deals and turned down buyers as well. I am still pumped that the ski community is present and keeping the community alive, its not perfect or regulated, if we knew or cared how to make it that way we would probably not be out there every possible minute sliding down snow. ITs good deals from good people, no more to it

I guess I lost this one.......... Sitting inside writing term papers while its PUKING snow outside fucks the brain.
Needless to say its a good example and I was using it prove that it doesnt matter what anyone thinks other than the seller. I didn't want to single you out but you appeared and I remembered the avitar.
EDIT: Thank God there is spellcheck on NeoOfficea positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

i suggest the OP NUKES this thread, has a drink and gets laid. in that order. If getting laid is a difficult option, pm splat for "professional" suggestions...

That was my gearswap, and Johnny did not win, mainly since he was in Canuckistan and it would cost more and be a pain to ship.
I sold the DPS Lotus 138 for $200 to a longstanding mag that had contributed and that deserves them more.
Sometimes folks here give stuff away for less than market just to hook up the stoke factor.
In my mind "Dibs" just means "I am next in line, please evaluate my":
1) price offer
2) TGR join date, contributions, stoke, etc.
3) douchiness.
Its a sellers market. Sell to anyone you want. end of story.
PS - if you made an offer for those skis you probably lost out due to:
a) extreme douchiness
b) you just joined last March
c) you have not contirbuted
d) you are a whiny little bitch"Fakers are Maggots" - T. Hall, 2011
heh
only a fake Rasta could make a claim like that
