Thread: Dynafit flexons

Hi to all those on the TGR forum.
For a first post, here are a few pictures of a litle autumn project. Raichle flexons with walk mode and dynafit inserts.
10 euros found me an old pair of Dynafit tour lite 4s, removed all buckles and walk mode from the lower shell. Cut away front of flexon tongue and inserted onto dynafit shell. Then measured to re drill and fix flexon rear cuff and 2 top buckles. Cut away rear of flexon cuff to allow for a limited walk mode and riveted on the very basic (but effective) tour lite 4 walk mode. Finaly attached a front buckle scavenged from another older touring boot. The result looks something like this (apologies for poor photography).






They feel great on and the walk mode gives a decent range (up to about vertical ). and weight 1600gr so no complaints there.
Will they survive the winter? well the snows falling in france so i will find out very soon!!!

Sweet, Pplus, that's a really great solution to the problem. I've hum'd and hawd about the flexon with a walk switch with the footworks guys in cham and they seem a bit reluctant. But, your idea of marrying the lower and the upper solves that problem, props. You want to give my flexons a shot if I can find some dynafit boots? Where you at in France?

The pictured lower shell is definitely *not* a TLT 4S (which has a non-DIN sole, in contrast to the pictured AT DIN sole). Probably a TLT 3.

reminds me, in a way, of the old frankenboots we made for tele racing back in the day, using old leather alpine boots and slapping a 3pin tele sole on them...

Ulty Guy,thanks for your vote of confidence! I might give this version a few weeks test run before hacking into another decent set of flexons! I especialy want to make sure the 5 mm rivet that holds the walk switch is strong (not sure what kind of forces are going to go through it) and find out if i've managed to mount the cuff in the right position, 'feels' right but it might be different actualy skiing them. D'ont live too far from cham and will definitly be up a few times in the winter, will post later in the winter and let you know how the project is going.

Cool, keep us informed on how the testing goes, will be interesting to see if that walk switch holds.

This cool project reminds me of an interesting irony: Raichle's Concord AT boot was available in a Dynafit-compatible version, yet it never got Raichle's Flexon tongue or Raichle's Thermoflex liner.

Just off the top of my head...

So I have a pair of Salomon SPK boots (don't laugh) that I got for cheap last year and are super comfy and great for kicking around and slack country. Anyways, you can replace the entire heel and toe unit, each has 4 screws. I was looking at the BD aftermarket plates and wondering if I could hack together a compatible alternative with the boots I already have. The BD ones seem to have the whole Dynafit assembly on the plates and not on the boot Anyone else looked into this? Or maybe with some garmont plates I could at least get a rockered vibram sole?

maybe worth checking whether plates for the Salomon Quest will slot in?
