PS Bridge ridiculously slow to generate thumbnails. Am I using a USB 1.1 card reader?

This setup is new to me but I've got a MacBook with a SanDisk SDDR-31 card reader. I was coming off of a Windows workstation with a build in card reader. It never used to take all that long for PS to generate thumbnails in bridge.

Now, on this new mac it's taking forever. Like hours for less than 50 shots.

This card reader is an old one that I've had for a while but hadn't used for a bit until buying this Mac. Is there a way to tell whether this card reader is working at USB 2.0?

Ummm, that card reader is from 2002. When it came out it was advertised as being 50 times faster than a serial port connection.

It just might be time to spend $20 and get a new reader.

I think you may be right but I'd like to be sure before spending the money on something I may not really need. According to wikipedia USB2.0 came out in April 2000.

Hey now! I've never had a computer run PS as good as this $400 macbook does.

So....turns out this IS a USB 1.1 card reader. If you're not sure, System Profiler will tell you under the USB section. It said this card reader was capable of 12 m/s and when I plugged in my external HD it said that was capable of 480 m/s. *Sigh*, I hate spending money on computer stuff.

Okay, go to the Apple menu at the top left corner of the screen, select About this Mac, then More Info,

Now select USB from the left sidebar and then card reader itself to see its speed.

Edit. You figured it out while I was posting.

But it is a shame when seven-year-old computer stuff is no longer up to date.
