Catboarding in Tahoe
Does anyone know of any catboarding or heliboarding operations in Tahoe? Can any of you recommend one to use?
I'll be out in Tahoe from December through to March and would really like to give it a go.
Cheers for your help.

For $89.95 USD per trip, I'll drive you to the top of echo summt road, drop you off, then drive around pick you back up again at the bottom for another run. Avalanche mitigation done free of charge (thanks to Caltrans)
Other than that, there's no Helis around. I haven't heard much of any cat skiing either. I think I heard both Jerkwood and Northstar mention something about semi-inbounds cat shuttles, But I haven't heard any news on that yet.

Pacific Crest Snowcats, it's kinda near Donner Pass. Great terrain, great guides. I had the unfortunate experience of meeting Splat and Kellie there....
Their website is: www.pacificcrestsnowcats.com
Also a little online article about it:

I'll take pity on you. Caltrans is the California Department of Transportation. They're the guys who build and maintain the roads in CA. In the winter, they are also responsble for plowing the roads and making sure that the roads are safe to travel. In the Sierras, this often involves some amount of avalanche control work.

"Catboarding"?
Please. The preferred nomenclature is catskiing.
"Catboarding" conjures up images of a bunch of prepubescent faggots blowing each other in the snowcat, then spending the day postholing and sitting on their ass at the top of a virginal peak.

The problem with that (Snow) Cat skiing operation between Squaw and Truckee is the terrain is lacking…or so I’ve heard. It kinda defeats the purpose if the terrain doesn’t satisfy.
I would recommend hiking for your turns in Tahoe at better locations. Its free and more bueno.
I’m sure there are folks that would show you around too.

Then what's the difference between "catboarding" and "snowboarding"?

When I saw "catboarding" in the topic I expected a video of some poor cat duct taped to a snowboard and sent off a 50 degree slope, complete with mandatory air.
What a ripoff!

I read "catboarding" and I imagined some sort of freaky dual-hull wakeboard.

This is the only one I've ever heard of, but it's not exactly next door. Notice how they jumped on this kickin' domain name...
