Thanks for the reminders powski3 and Gunder, we're all super amped, but should keep our heads.
In other news, Stevens was great today, esp early before the crowds and temps showed up. Seemed about 2-2.5 feet, deeper when suppoerted by heather or windblown.
Ran into Mag Chris (handle can't remember) and got some compromising photos! First pow beater of the season? Me thinks so.Just ski down there and jump off something for crying out loud!

Snowcats rolling around at Steven's base, judging by the webcam. consolidate snow a bit for possible opening?

I dunno, Stevens sounds pretty hesitant in their online posting today about a possible opening:
As of Monday, November 9, 2009, 8:20am, we are expecting the weather to alternate between rain and snow showers. Our mountain staff will be out first thing this morning assessing what snow came in over the weekend. Right now our telemetry is reading 28 degrees with a 28" base, though we will take a visual on that to verify this morning.
Right now, it is all about having sufficient snow coverage that would be able to sustain grooming equipment and prolonged skier/snowboarder use for operation of the resort. Just as important too is being somewhat confident that subsequent weather patterns will help to sustain what we have accumulated. Meaning sustained cold temperatures and/or more snow in the forecast. It is difficult to give a specific amount needed, since it depends on the snows density, moisture content and numerous other factors. Three feet of dry light powder snow vs. 3 feet heavier wet snow make a lot of difference and determine when we can put heavy grooming equipment on the slopes, without the potential of digging through the building base.

This is just insanity:
Today: Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Tonight: New snow accumulation of 13 to 19 inches possible.
Thursday: New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.
Thursday Night: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times.
Friday: Snow.
Friday Night: Snow showers likely.
Saturday: Snow likely.
Saturday Night: Snow.
Sunday: Snow likely.
Sunday Night: Snow likely.
Monday: Snow likely.
Monday Night: Snow likely.
Tuesday: Snow likely.
We have currently gotten more than the average annual snowfall for hunter Mountain. By next week, we will pass Killington's annual snowfall. Do not stop the insanity!Living vicariously through myself.

Just hope the slight warming trend and higher freezing level forecast for today doesn't come to fruition, and the FL stays at or below 4000'. Baker is looking pretty sweet for a Friday. Hell, any one of the ski areas fm Hood to Whistler should be good.

Me and Laura will be driving from MT to WA tomorrow, not in time for Friday but whatever! we need some pow pow. If anyone's got floor/couch space (we have sleeping bags etc) pretty much anywhere in WA it'd be really appreciated as funds are low. We're Europeans so we'll fit in a pretty small space also..! You'll get to hear bad Finnish jokes and of course chance to stay at our place the coming seasons (this season Missoula till Dec, somewhere in BC Canada after Dec, next season who knows where) in exchange.. and beers if you so like.
Likewise if if someone's ready to show around for a bit that'd be super also, be it in-bounds or backcountry (we got gear and are not dumb). We're thinking probably somewhere along the lines of crystal/stevens/baker/alpental for resorts but not sure where we'll end up, so open for everything.

11-19-2009, 02:48 PM #199Alpental is not open yet. The only thing open at the Summit is the radness of Summit West. I'll be there Sunday for my 4 year old's first day.
