Just revisited 10-11-84, the stealth show of brilliance next to its (now) well-known neighbor. It is amazing. The Oade recording is really nice too.

Warts and all GD. Check it out.

A gem from a month earlier than Aldo's show above. The Playin as the 1st set closer is tremendous!

Just discovered the "on this day in history" function on my Relisten app. I've been listening to a full show from 1977 about every day. It's been great month so far.

That's one of my favorite tours. A little before my time but I dig pulling out shows from fall 83. It gets over looked. Lots of issues around that time. Sloppy playing sometimes. Obvious disconnect from Garcia on some nights as well as others. But, fall '83 is mostly really tight. Love that one!

    JULY '78 Box:

So far I've only been through the 7/1/78 and 7/3/78 shows and only truly interned in depth to the 7/1 show. That was at Arrowhead stadium and they opened for Willie. This show is rockin. They seemed to try to appeal to that crowd without getting cheesy. It worked! Not a lot of big jams it excellent playing. First set has some kinks but he Estimated-other 1-wharf rat is outstanding. The other one is short but really lively. Wharf rat is excellent.

The 7/3 show is tight too. Haven't had time to give it a quality listen without distractions yet though.

just realized i was listening to 5-9-77, a few days before the thread title. i've been stuck around 73-74 for quite a while now so that 83 show was a pleasant surprise. most of them are.

dead and co playing the moda center in july i think. and an amphitheater in washington. too rich for my blood.

I'm psyched about the pre red rocks shows on this run bec I don't know them well at all. August 7 and 8 are two of the great GD shows of all time. Get them. I have listened to them so many times since my first cassette copies in 1988; the copies of this box set I got were out of sync so I had to reorder the tunes and I was able differentiate versions from earlier in the run by ear! So many amazing versions--the band is totally in sync. Jack, peggy, s-fire, est-other one, Peter, wharf rat, I could go on and on about them and some of the other desert island versions. The estimated other one is so electric, as is the rat out of space.
