Rossi: a study in advertising
I just noticed last night the Rossi ad running in Powder is different from the one in Skiing. It's pretty funny to compare the two actually.
Both ads show a room. On one side of the room is miscellaneous stuff kind of pushed into the corner. On the other side of the room is a window looking out onto a mountain and a pair of skis leaning against the wall. "Priorities" is written under the skis.
OK, so here's how the ads differ. In the Powder ad the skis are Bandit B2's. The mountains outside are the Tetons. The junk pushed into the corner looks like stuff a college aged kid would own. There's even an alarm clock that reads 4:20!
The Skiing ad shows Sun Valley outside the window and the skis are their Zenith cruiser skis. The stuff shoved into the corner includes golf clubs, a leather chair, a family photo. Basically things you'd associate with a middle-age businessman. The clock in this ad shows 12:00, by the way.
Anyway, just an interesting study in demographics. Here's a link showing the version that ran in Skiing: http://www.skipressworld.com/us/en/m...4no1/Prvw3.htm
I can't find the Powder one, so you'll just have to look in the magazine.

Both very poorly done ads. the photoshop work is appauling and they pigeon hole the magazine readers too much based on percieved demographics.

Ski Canada had the same version of the powder ad but with the new zenith skis.
Rossi really is pigeon holing its cusmtomers, by saying that the older (more income) reads Ski Canada(Probably Right) and the younger crowd reads Powder and markets the B2 to its readers (really should be marketing the B3 in powder.

What I can't figure out is why don't they show the B3 for Powder.
